Raising to public prominence an issue Bill Clinton raised in 1992, Kerry made a promise: "We will stop being the only industrialized nation on the face of the planet - and the richest one at that - that doesn't understand that health care is not a privilege for the rich and the powerful; it is a right for all Americans.''

In prepared remarks before the Memphis appearance, Kerry took aim at Bush's economic report released Monday.

"Photo-op after photo-op, the President continues to claim that the economy is improving. But, Mr. President, who is the economy improving for? More than 56,000 jobs have been lost in Tennessee since the beginning of the Bush administration, including 5,300 during the month of December alone. It's more empty promises and false hope for middle-class families.''

Kerry is expected to escort Rep. Harold Ford Jr., an early supporter, when he votes today in Memphis. Kerry's supporters will gather at Pat O'Brien's, 310 Beale, after polls close this evening.

1. I love the fact that the primaries and caucuses are focusing
attention on individual states and their particular stats - especially in the area of job loss.

"More than 56,000 jobs have been lost in Tennessee since the beginning of the Bush administration..."

This focus, by all of the candidates, drives the issue home and slaps it on the kitchen table, where the stark reality of everyday life abides.

2. I am really sad
that my state will be left out entirely - b/c by May, it won't matter anymore. And, my state has the highest poverty level in the nation. Oh well, focus local. I'm ready!
