The receptionist said "Sorry our guy isn't the nominee."
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 10:43 AM by madfloridian
At the doctor's office, the nurse saw our Dean buttons. Since they are mostly Dean supporters in that clinic, I know she meant no offense.

She just simply said what she believed. She pointed to the headline in the local paper on the nearby table....and she said "he (Kerry) sure won it early."

I said he isn't the nominee yet, Dean is still running. She nearly jumped for joy. A nurse walked by who is internet-connected and more up on things, and she said "Guess the media is doing its job, huh?" She was not smiling.

The press here, and our state Democratic chair Maddox, have all practically declared Kerry the winner. I can see why people think he is.

This is very sad to me, and I know there is no way to fix it. We are examining our feelings now, my husband and I, about what to do about our future vote (Edited...definitely for DEAN...) It is not an easy decision. We are definitely for Dean all the way....then we have to think because of the way it is being done.

2. This is so sad
What percentage of the delegates have been decided?

This is ridiculous. I hope the party is happy with the results over the next two years. The way they have handled this primary season and the party as a whole the past three years will influence not just this GE, but the midterms after that, and the next GE, and fundraising... you reap what you sow.

4. nominee or not...
gotta stick with principals and vote Dean, I say.

Lots of people don't like how Kerry is working the nomination thing -- it's like another right-wing conspiracy all over again.

Dean 04!

5. I agree completely.
We were both sort of in shock when she said that to us. It is like the reality of the power of the media sunk in.

We are 100% Dean.

15. arrogant?
I should vote for the same Howard Dean who couldn't even be bothered to submit a candidate's statement for the primary in DC? I can understand not showing up, but why would I vote for someone who can't even be bothered to tell me why I should vote for him? There are 650,000 people in DC, and Dean flipped them the bird. Other candidates, Kerry, for instance, were at least man enough to skip the primary completely, not even registering. But you can't register, get on the ballot and then not even bother. That's an insult to me, personally, that I will never forget. And yes, at the time, I had volunteered for him. But I won't again.

20. That's really kind of funny...
If I understand you correctly, Dean is a jerk because he took the time to run in the primary, and have a volunteer organization there in D.C. But he's a bad guy because he didn't get a candidate's statement in the ballot. Did you inquire as to why that was so? Did they miss a deadline? Do you know for sure? And.. Kerry is a good guy because he dissed D.C. by pretending they didn't exist?

Dean didn't flip D.C. the bird. They seem to really like him.. he won.

14. Why do we have to call the election so early?
After the SC primaries the news media was proclaiming Kerry the winner of the Nomination..... Is their not like 40+ more primaries to go? McCaliuf telling candidates that they should drop is WRONG, It denies the choice of voters in other states (like mine).

16. It's really sad.
I also have a friend who thought Kerry was already the nominee. Even though he doesn't follow politics, he said that all he see are Kerry headlines.

Got to love our media. :grr:

17. Do voters really know what they
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 01:02 PM by candy331
want as this continues to be hailed? When Dean was hailed as the choice by the media and polls showed him beating Bush the voters wanted Dean. Now the media and pundits and Dem higher ups tout Kerry and the voters want Kerry. If Edwards/Clark was to somehow squeak by and the media hails one of them the voters would want him. Lets face it most voters vote for who they are told/influenced to vote for. In this case they are being told and influenced to vote for Kerry simply because he is said to be able to beat Bush and be damned the issues. Hang in there with Dean. It is a long time until the convention and if Dean hangs in there anything could happen.

19. I know...
people tend to gravitate towards the "winner"

But no worries, I'm sticking with Dean until the very end. A lot can happen in just a few days -- we should know, right? :)

18. Ok, you won't believe this one. I think our city is out of it.
Hubby just got in from Circuit City. He had his Dean buttons on. Some guy said "hey, good guy that Dean, too bad he lost."

Again, it was sincere. He was just spouting what he heard.

Now, I think I will just sit down and cry for what we are all missing in this country.

21. But we are all crazy conspiracy theorists to believe...
The media has any effect at all on these primaries.

I'm waiting for all these Kerry supporters to start complaining about the media propping up Bush. If it's OK for Kerry, and we are to put complete trust in the individual voters and their powers of independent thought, I don't want to hear it.

23. More. Just sent an email to our Dean mailing list to update things.
A lot don't spend much time on computer, and rely on the local papers and TV.

I just got two mails back thanking me for letting them know that Dean was still running. They were going to hit the bat.

They were at the meeting last week. They are intelligent people.
They did not know Dean was stil in the race because the media did not do their job.
