Why is Al Gore always referred to as an "insider"?
If Al Gore really was an insider, *HE* would be the nominee. When he announced he wasn't going to run, he indicated that he wanted to run, but strongly implied that he was pressured not to run.

1. It's part of an attempt to portray Kerry as an outsider, because
outsiders are "cool" now.

it worked both in 68 and 72, but not during Watergate for some reason.

6. Let's see..
...father was a Senator; Gore was a Senator, V.P.; ran for Pres.
Gore knew more about raising soft money than all but a handful of people.
