3rd place finishes put Kucinich in a winning frame of mind
02/10/04
Tom Diemer
Plain Dealer Bureau

Washington- Rep. Dennis Kucinich said Monday his third-place finishes in the Maine and Washington state caucuses over the weekend make him all the more determined to carry on his struggle for the Democratic presidential nomination.

"Granted, it is modest, but I still have finally been able to break into the top three in two elections," he said in a phone interview. "In both cases, I did so with virtually no national media exposure."

Kucinich hit his high water mark in Maine on Sunday, trailing winner John Kerry and Howard Dean, but edging John Edwards and Wesley Clark. The tally in Maine was still not complete Monday night, but if Kucinich maintains his 15 percent to 16 percent share, he expects to come away with at least one pledged delegate.

i think the second dennis bails, nader will throw his hat in. of course, he won't get the support he had in 2000, but i think he'll do it.

4. Funny, ain't it, how his percentages just keep going UP?
6% in NM, 8 %(with results not final) in Washington, 15.7 % in Maine(with results not final.)

The sleeping giant is awakened and filled with a terrible resolve. The PEOPLE are determined to have a say in this election.

6. Go Kuchinich!
I'm a Dean guy, but I like Dennis a close second, and I love seeing him move up!

Dean/Kuchinich make a fine 3rd party team!

9. Horribly off-topic
Apparently Dean's 'we have to win X at all costs or may have to quit' or however it was worded, was a 'ploy' to pump up contributions.

I don't care, and frankly I think it has no place on this thread. Guess there aren't enough pro-Kerry or anti-Dean threads at the moment to keep everyone satisfied.

10. sure it's the hometown paper, but what a great story
"Fringe" 2%-er pulls in two surprise 3rd place finishes in a row? As long as the media focuses on the horse race, how could they pass picking up that story?

ok, It's not Janet's boob, but still...
