Please Donate to the DU Year-end Charity Donation Drive -- Supporting America's Second Harvest!

A little more than a week ago, I mentioned that a few DUers had suggested doing a donation drive for charity this holiday season. The members of DU suggested a number of worthy causes. After much consideration, the DU admins have chosen a charity:


America's Second Harvest Network—The Nation's Food Bank Network

America's Second Harvest—The Nation's Food Bank Network is the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the country with a Network of more than 200 Member food banks and food-rescue organizations serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The America's Second Harvest Network secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually; and supports approximately 50,000 local charitable agencies operating more than 94,000 programs including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs and Kids Cafes. Last year, the America's Second Harvest Network provided food assistance to more than 25 million low-income hungry people in the United States, including nearly 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors. 5. I did volunteer work for them in New Orleans

After Katrina they had LOTS of work to do getting programs rebuilt and food to those with none. I was surprised how tough a job the survivors had getting fresh food.

Thank you for chosing them as the charity. I urgently encourage people to donate to this great cause!

Can this be pinned to the top of the page like the DU donation drives are done? I'd hate to see this thread sink in the usual 24 hours.

By the way, this is a VERY good chairty. Not to say others suggested were not. But these are GOOD people that any DUer can be proud to support.

* 52.4% of households with children had to choose between buying food and paying for utilities or heating fuel.
