The US is enlightened and intelligent enough to vote for someone named ...?
Barack Hussein Obama? Do you believe that to be true?

Consider that many of the American public were naive enough in 2004 to believe the Swift Boat lies and voted against a Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient in favor of a coward that skipped out on the war?

Do you truly believe that in the middle of a hot campaign, that the mud slingers in the Republican Party will not try to connect "Hussein" Obama to Saddam Hussein or to Osama bin Laden? Or do you believe the majority of the American people are too wise to be fooled by such dirty tricks?

And you believe that people will listen to the message and disregard the negative comments about Senator Obama? And you believe we are a progressive nation that is ready for gay marriage and a visionary leader named Barack Hussein Obama? I wish I had your optimism....

1. I forget which Canadian radio show it was
(I think it was the same one that mocked Americans who confused Jean Chretien with "Prime Minister Poutine") interviewed a number of Americans: "Do you agree that Barack Obama poses a threat to America." At least two dozen people interviewed said "yes, he did 9/11" and similar statements.

We are, by and large, an uneducated and ignorant populace, and that will hurt people like Barack Obama.

2. We should not underestimate the ignorance of the American populace..
unfortunately. We have seen the proof and he is now leading this nation. I wish it were otherwise but it's difficult to argue with reality.

3. ALAS, I'm afraid that America as it is now would not elect a
man like Obama, or specifically elect this man Obama. His last name sounds like Osama, his middle name is Hussein like Saddam, he is black, and is not well known by most Americans. He is a Democrat, he is a liberal, and I'm afraid that would be enough for a majority of voters to reject him, no matter how virtuous or able he might be. The Republican candidate, whoever he turns out to be, would crucify him before the electorate, and many voters would approve.

4. I think any candidate damn fool enough to use a name
as a reason for somebody to vote for him instead will look like an idiot. The GOP is full of idiots, they voted for shrub again after he lied to them. But then, there are only 32% of them left........I say go Obama. Let the bastards whine about what's in a name.

5. 'The candidate' would never use this slur ....
.... but his surrogates will all over it like stink on shit.

Yeah, it ought to be a non issue. Sadly, for the great unwashed, it is all too easy to make it an issue.

6. I would think those not enlightened enough
so as to dismiss a candidate based on his/her name wouldn't vote for a Democrat anyway. I don't see this issue as being a net loss for the Democrats.
