Election 2006: Nearly $300K still in Burns treasury

HELENA (AP) - The unsuccessful re-election campaign of Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Mont., ended with a $292,969 surplus, exceeding the campaign leftovers of other Republicans who made key bids for Senate re-election and failed.

They show that Sen. George Allen, who lost to Democrat Jim Webb in Virginia, had $175,796 left over. Allen was just ahead of Ohio's Mike DeWine, with $165,204 left after losing to Democrat Sherrod Brown. Missouri Sen. Jim Talent lost to Democrat Claire McCaskill and had $77,107 on hand.

1. Harold Ford Jr is about $300K short. Maybe Burns could help out Ford.
