Democrats Should Relax about Control of the Senate
"In control of the Senate, Democrats will simply open themselves to charges, in the 2008 campaign, of being obstructionist and negative, because they won't be able to accomplish anything of substance. In opposition, they would be in a powerful position, with 50 votes, to block any bad Republican legislation or bad nominations to judgeships or government offices, but because they would be in the position of opposition party, no one would blame them for being obstructionist--opposition and obstruction would be their official role.

More important, in the role of opposition party, Democratic Senators would be freer to be themselves. There would be far less pressure from corporate interests to temper their views and to move to the center or to the right than they are getting now as the ruling party."

1. Did the last 4 years go completely over Lindorff's head?
Edited on Sat Dec-16-06 07:44 PM by Gman
Good morning, Mr. Lindorff. There's a lot you need to know about while you were asleep these last 4 years. To begin with, there was an election last month and the people were pretty damn clear about what they were thinking about Congress and the direction of this country....

Jeez, some people's kids.

2. Powder-drying tutu-ology
'tis far far better to not have power than to have it, for with power comes responsibility. Get out your pink tutus and start the conga line! Keep that powder dry for 09. No need to lead, we might bleed.

Ah what else could we expect?

3. ...and now that I think about it,
we'd be a lot better off if the Puggies win the Presidency and get Congress back in 2008, too. That way nobody can blame us for all the things that are sure to go wrong.

6. If we lost the Senate, the Democratic House would be forced to
be more obstructionist which would hurt Dems most. By having both houses, we can force Bush to be the obsbtructionist to progressive policies and it'll hurt Reps in 2008. We need the Senate.

9. Biggest crock of shit ever
If we're going to take blame for what congress does then we should at least have the opportunity to control both houses not just one of them. That way the GOP can't obstruct us in the Senate and then blame us for what we do in the House.
