Pssst..."now John McCain is becoming a liablility"...from a GOP blog
Oh my, lots of chatter on a couple of polls this week about the horse race we lovingly call the sport of political junkies. This special find was from the very non-freepish GOP blog called Race 4 2008 (link below snip). My guy, Edwards happens to be ahead of McCain this week, enjoy the chatter:

snip..Were it not for this and other polls that show John McCain bleeding his “moderate/independent” support by the buckets full in the wake of his attempts at repositioning himself as the “common sense conservative,” this latest NBC/WSJ Poll might seem like a fluke. But there is just too much established evidence at this point to ignore the fact that there is something about a John Edwards candidacy that puts McCain seriously at risk.

In this new NBC/WSJ survey, Edwards leads McCain by a margin of 43% to 41%. Obviously, two things immediately come to mind: A). Edwards’ victory is still very much within the margin of error; and B). Poll results just less than two years out from the election are subject to great changes and fluctuations as campaigns progress. However, this poll and others like it can not be merely tossed aside and dismissed–these polls pose a serious, serious problem to the very basic core reasoning of a McCain candidacy. For the past many months, and years even, McCain has had as much presidential support amongst Republican voters because they think he can win. Were it not for his perceived electoral power, McCain would be a nobody in terms of the presidential election–he would simply be a much older and feebler version of Chuck Hagel. The fact that John Edwards, someone with nowhere near the experience and qualifications of John McCain, can win at this point, considering that McCain is already at or near 100% name recognition and has very little wiggle room to change/develop opinions, is detrimental to the very fundamental logic of McCain’s run for the White House.

As we here have been predicting for weeks now, ever since the monumental change of dynamics created by the Democrats’ Senate takeover, McCain as a minority member is now stuck between a rock and a hard place. He has to, on the one hand, try to appease the same conservatives and Republicans he’s been infuriating for the past decade, but by doing so bleeds moderate/crossover support. On the other hand, he has to retain his image as a moderate, but by doing so bleeds conservative/GOP support. The major problem with this teeter-totter strategy is that as he flips back and forth, constantly trying to appease both ends of the political spectrum, he’s not actually making headway with either side. He’s only damaging his relationship with each side by constantly running back and forth to appease each one’s opposite side.

Where once McCain was the GOP’s “Ace,” now McCain is beginning to become a liability. For someone so immensely unpopular amongst grassroots conservative America, who also happens to be losing serious ground in the general election matchups, I just don’t see how McCain winds up with the nomination when all is said and done.

2. Thank you, I thought so too and
thank you for not questioning my source. I do think there are some great conservative blogs out there, especially when we discover "what thorns are on their sides" :D

3. Be nice if we could stick a pitchfork in McCain as soon as possible.
His media patrons will move heaven and earth to try to resurrect their straight-talking (with forked tongue) "god". I like that Edwards appeals to many sensible (to the extent that it's possible) Republicans.

5. Oh and the lesson learned lurking on
"the other America" blogs.......sorry, I just get so pissed wondering what "they" learn from us...."empty suits", "no experience", "had his chance", "she's a bitch", "fluffy", "media whore", "looks like a troll", "voted for the war", "voted against funding the war" "voting for funding against war, but bring them home now" ...and this is from "our America"...whew. McCain has it easy.

13. rudy won't make it, either. Too liberal for the al Qaeda republi-CONS:
the much-vaunted "base" (after all, don't forget that al Qaeda means "the base"). The red-meaters who turn out the vote and obsess on these people are the fundies and crackpots who've hijacked the GOP of our parents' era. They won't go for him because he's pro-choice and because his personal life was so messy, and his divorce was so icky, and all that dirt is gonna come out all over again and bury him.

I think the way is clear for a Democratic takeover of the White House in '08. Just too damned much damage has been done. Hurricane george just ripped the place from stem to stern, and they won't recover in a mere two years. It'll take longer than that. Maybe a LOT longer (hopefully).

This OP is a good assessment. Besides, mccain is no spring chicken and not 100% in the health department, and he'll be two years older and more crotchety by the time it really starts to count. ANYTHING can happen, of course. ANYTHING. But I think his star is falling. Maybe rudy and mccain will duke it out at the convention perhaps with a dark horse or two, and then they'll all be such severely damaged goods that the way will be clear for a Dem to break all the way through.

16. Guiliani has a Lifetime movie depicting
events in his life leading up to him becoming Mayor of the World after 9-11. He was not well liked as a Mayor of NYC (per locals)....I think it will be an uphill battle for him just to get the nomination. PLUS, he's made more money exploiting 9-11 than anyone else.

However, he didn't vote for the IWR, so he may pass the test for some DUers :sarcasm:

19. I remember that. Some wound up saying that 9/11 was the best thing
that ever happened to rudy-boy. He was just a few months away from leaving office. People in NYC were counting the minutes, as I heard it. And then 9/11 changed everything - for him especially. All of a sudden, all that other stuff was forgotten and forgiven and rudy was instantly rehabilitated. Nothing else mattered. It served him VERY well, and catapulted him to ungodly national prominence - AND reverence. But time marches on, and things change, and memories fade, and sooner or later you get back to the day-to-day shit that you were facing before 9/11, and you remember why you disliked him so.

And if he tries a run of his own, ALL THAT is going to come out again. Plus the shitty way his marriage ended, and the mistress (now his wife) he was so anxious to move into his mayor's mansion bedroom with him, WHILE HIS not-yet-ex-wife AND SON were still living there. The "family values" people will not be able to get around that one completely. They'll try. But I suspect enough of them won't be able to gag that one down. Especially if our side - um - "reminds" people of it sufficiently.

22. Mayor of Noo Yawk City with a funny ferrin name
I can hear em now down in Trent Lott territory!

Plus, up here lots of women don't appreciate the way he dumped his wife, announcing his divorce at a press conference before he told her, for instance...

Lotsa baggage, that Guiliani.

17. The Blogometer covers both party's blogs

....and many agree with you :hi:

Chris Matthews mentioned on Hardball, the media's favorite source for keeping up with blogs is this website. It really is good for the "skinny" on both sides.

14. Over at that "other place"
I found some poll results:

If Romney, McCain, and Giuliani were the only names on the ballot for the GOP 2008 nomination, whom would you vote for?

Member Opinion
Giuliani --- 44.7% -- 1,345
Romney -- 31.1% --- 936
Sit it out - 19.5% --- 587
McCain ---- 4.7% --- 142

They're not too excited about McCain either.

20. What we will be seeing
in the 08 campaign is whether or not we have the so called religious right disavow all their beliefs and go with someone like McCain or Rudy. Oh, I am sure they will find some verse in the Bible and use it and say this is what Jesus would say and do....
Maybe, just maybe when Senator Johnson was felled by his stroke and the right wing began hitting the airwaves about them not losing control of the Senate and Fox News running specials and theme music saying the balance of power shifts back to the republicans, maybe, just maybe G-d saw what was being said and what black hearts these folks had, G-d healed Senator Johnson.
