NYT piece on Kerry's 1996 comeback senate win against Gov Weld
He was SERIOUSLY behind!

I had forgotten how hard-fought and nasty that race was. Lots of insight into how Kerry reacts to attacks/strategies he uses. The article is worth reading for anyone who doubts Kerry's ability to fight back.

3. What Is Interesting About the NYT Piece is

it highlights the differences between MA and other parts of the country.

First, Weld was actually a fairly moderate republican. In fact, so much so that Clinton nominated for ambassador to Mexico, but Helms refused him a hearing -- so Weld had to withdraw. Weld and Kerry are closer on policy than Weld and Bush.

Second, how can Kerry do to Bush what he did to Weld. If Kerry holds up Newt or even DeLay to Bush and says -- you want this? - there will be lots of people who will say - yes, I do want that.

Lastly, I am glad Kerry is a fighter, he will need to use everything he has against Bush if he is the nominee.
