3. Your vitriol is showing.

Quick - in 2004, who else even talked about it?

Who else dealt with the institutional avenues of "don't ask, don't tell?"

Kucinich - probably not, his being a devout Catholic who only changed his mind on choice after listening to his grown daughter.

Dean? He'd be the ONLY other one - but he didn't have to deal with it from a manager/administrative point of view like Clark did.

Edwards? Don't make me laugh! I don't even think he mentioned it. It didn't fit into his Son of a Mill Worker (manager) speech.

Kerry? Maybe. But, he also downplayed it.

Lieberman?

7. The allegiance is because I'm NOT blind.
I can see how a retired general from Arkansas could pick up some purple states over a woman and a black man - at least I'm not blind about that.

10. I'm trying very hard to like Wes
because I agree with you. With his resume, he could be very effective in purple states.

When he comes out with statements like "I'm the one" to do this or that, he just sounds amateurish and insecure.

12. If it helps, that cover was from 2003 when he was a bit of an
amateur in the political arena.

5. what matters to me
isn't who the candidate is (as long as he's (or she's) generally progressive), but that they truly believe in marriage equality, just as they truly believe in other progressive issues.

You can't defend a position you don't believe in and the more controversial the issue the flatter your defense falls if you can't clearly articulate the reasons for your stance.

So, Hillary and Obama are out for me; if their "rationale" for supporting marriage equality is because their polls say it might be a good thing, then it's still not good enough.

Hackett and Feingold didn't require a poll to lead on this issue, and to lead well and clearly. I hope Wes can do the same consistently and I'd seriously consider him for a candidate, although I'm also not fond of hawkish stances generally speaking; but the times they are a changin', for all of us.

6. Feingold hasn't required a poll to lead on anything
very disappointed he decided not to run.

8. Clark on the Advocate cover? Too bad, I would have liked him to have had a chance.
Not going to happen now. What kind of attack ads can the Rs make out of this. Whatever one may think about the merits of gay marriage, the voters will not accept it especially in the fly-over states. I empathize with those who want gay marriage and who suffer without it. Nevertheless, I can't see it happening nationally for twenty years.

No one made an issue of it back then.

16. Bleachers7, I don't always appreciate your humor, but
I get it this time. Don't worry, I won't vote to recommend your thread. But by chosing the advocate cover photo, you actually gave people something of substance to talk about here.
