Louisiana Politics alive and well (Jefferson election)
Congressman Jefferson who hasn't been charged with anything (yet) but who had 90K stuffed in his freezer was reelected with 57 percent of the vote on Saturday. The FBI is investigating whether Jefferson has taken bribes.

The political machine in South Louisiana worked to get Jefferson reelected because they expect him to be indicted thus giving them another chance of putting their own candidate in office. They sent the message to the folks in the burbs that his opponent Karen Carter was just way too uppity for them; that she didn't share their "values." Carter may run again if Jefferson is indicted but if she were elected it wouldn't have made any difference what happened to Jefferson.

Jefferson Parrish Sheriff Harry Lee had a hardon for Carter because she dared to speak out against his deputies and the Gretna police deparments actions after Katrina. And the machine on the bayou stays oiled.

1. I wonder how much of the $90,000 freezer cash Harry Lee is getting?
I heard him Friday morning on WWL saying that he didn't endorse anyone and urged everyone to stay home and not vote. He then revised his statement to say if you weren't going to vote for Jefferson, just stay home. What a piece of work.

4. Ain't it wonderful
when an elected official urges people not to vote.

2. teevee pundit (forgot which one) speculated Jefferson won

because a majority perceived him as having been especially helpful and effective for NOLA in the aftermath of Katrina. And that Carter's emphasis on his corruption may have backfired.

I know you're from those parts and you surely know best. But it is embarrassing to our side that he was elected, those 90K ware marked bills- it looks like a slam-dunk case of corruption... same pundits speculated that he will be treated like a pariah in COngress, and get the suckiest committee placement.

What do folks like about him down there?

3. I don't live in that district
but I was hoping he wouldn't get reelected. I'm afraid the mood of the electorate was bottom line, he may be a crooked politician but he is our crooked politician and we don't preciate no criticism. Unfortunately, Louisiana will have to pay for another election because I think he will be charged, so in that sense, his "supporters" will get what they wanted.

5. I want to know why he hasn't been charged with anything yet?
And what is his explanation for having 90K in his freezer? Does he not trust banks?

6. Wheels of justice
spinning pretty slow in his case. He said there was an honorable reason the money was in the freezer but on the advice of legal counsel he would not reveal what that was?!?
