Newsweek poll: Americans agree with ISG, Bush at 32% (AFP)
Most Americans agree with Iraq Study Group recommendations: poll

Sat Dec 9, 3:39 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A majority of Americans agree with the independent Iraq Study
Group's recommendations and believe the United States is losing ground in the
war-torn country, according to a new poll.

Some 68 percent of respondents said the United States is losing ground in the war
-- the highest rate ever, according to Newsweek -- while just 21 percent thought
the United States was making progress in Iraq.

Sixty-five percent of respondents agreed with the group's recommendation that
Washington should threaten to reduce economic and military support for Baghdad's
government if it fails to meet key goals. Fifty-seven percent agreed that the
United States should engage Iran and Syria in efforts to stabilize Iraq, and
61 percent supported the idea of a renewed US commitment to pressing for Israeli-
Palestinian peace.

US President George W. Bush's approval rating, meanwhile, held fairly steady at 32
percent, compared with 31 percent in the November 9-10 Newsweek poll.

1. WHO are these 32 percent?
Is a third of the country just impenetrably stupid?

3. yes
there is an old saying, think of how stupid the average person is, then realize that half the people are even more stupid than that. It's a safe bet now that a third of the American people is dumb as a bag of hammers.

6. Stupid?
They may be stupid but I would think more stubborn. They don't want to admit defeat. They don't want history to paint GWB as the worst President of all time. They don't want Iraq to end up being compared to Viet Nam in the history books. Some think that with perseverance and increased effort the war would be winnable. They fear that leaving Iraq, particularly leaving quickly will leave the door open for Islamic factions to come here and attack us. They fear a radical Islamic take over of some of the richest energy sources for the western world.

My gut feeling is they just don't want to face reality.

5. The ISG report should have just been a one page.
Saying, "George its over. You fucked it up. Thanks a lot. Now get the troops out before we tell the world your little secret."
