50. Yes, about 20 years ago was the last time I bought from Domino's
Because of the politics involved and also because the pizza tastes like tomato sauce on wet cardboard. There is simply better pizza available.

Mmmmmm...pizzzzaaaaa! :9 Now I want pizza for dinner tonight!

10. My PRECISE thought--if the politics didn't suck enough, the product certainly does!
That is some of the NASTIEST pizza I have ever consumed. AWFUL stuff! The only remotely bearable versions are the extra thin crust; it's then that you have a hope of tasting...what? The SALT, probably, that they put on those dreadful doughish disks! No amount of hot pepper can rescue the things!

I haven't had one in ten years, but I remember them, and not fondly!

82. worked at a bad one of their franchise stores for 1 night... interesting experiences...
Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 02:14 AM by ncrainbowgrrl
came within 50 feet of hitting a deer. Couldn't find an address- they sent me off the map- granted, extra money for me per mile, but... probably not the best idea to do with a newbie driver.

It was next to impossible to see the numbers on the doors/mailboxes, even with my brights on.

FINALLY, when I found the house, I was slightly flustered, knowing that even with the heat bags, the pizza wouldn't be hot anymore. I prepared an apology mentally as I tried to walk quickly up the driveway. There was a skateboard? Scooter--I don't know what- but it had wheels lying out. I proceeded to further humiliate myself by falling over it.

When I got to the door, I apologized for the delay, and explained that it was my first night on the job.

the kid (about 15) who ordered the pizzas said something like "Dude, my parents gave me money for food- said that friends could come over whenever, whattever...and then they went away on vacation (to some tropical location, IIRC) He looked at me... and as I struggled to make change in the dark night with only the light from the half-open door- he said something like "No- keep it. I've got more." I must have looked stunned-he laughed. I asked if he was sure about that. With a MOST emphatic nod, he grinned- (the grin of a rebellious teen) and said something like"Oh yeah, I'm sure. Have a good night." I had just gotten a $15 tip.

When I got back to Domino's, they asked what had taken so long. Apparently they didn't like their drivers wasting that much time. I apologized. (again- gosh, how many apologies had I issued that night?) The next call was to deliver a couple of pizzas to a street that I TOTALLY knew where it was. I was sure that I was all over this one- could get it there quickly. I did. I was SO proud of myself! The adult at the door took the pizza, thanked me, paid for the pizzas with a check and closed the door behind him. (Yo- where's my tip?!)

I got back to the store. That's when they told me that there was a charge for paying by check... (I apparently should have gathered this knowledge from some mystical source/trainer...) Oh- and this fee would be coming out of my tip from that delivery. I laughed. I told them that I hadn't gotten a tip, showing them the check for the exact amount of the food. They told me that I must have gotten a cash tip, then. That was the last straw. I SO did not need this--although I really needed the money-- had just graduated from college and hadn't gotten a real job yet.

I reached into my wallet- where we weren't supposed to put any tips/or dominos moneys- and pulled out a dollar bill from my own money, then, I took off my little hat, badge and T-shirt (was wearing a tanktop under it) and handed them all to the manager. "Thanks for the experience," I said and walked out of the store.

both my college roommates worked for Domino's, I've had my fill. But seriously who cares if they build their own little world. I hope it works and encourages other religious groups to isolate themselves. If they are too extreme to fit with normal society that thrives on innovation and technology, well good riddance.

24. OMG, fundies are so freakin' stupid!
Abortions, pornography and contraceptives will be banned in the new Florida town of Ave Maria, which has begun to take shape on former vegetable farms 90 miles northwest of Miami.

I guess nobody would be capable of driving to nearby towns--or the metropolis of Miami--to get abortions, porn, or The Pill. And of course, none of these pretentious pious pricks would have a stash of their own porn, nor would they download it from the "internets". Oh, no...never!

Tom Monaghan, the founder of the Domino’s Pizza chain, has stirred protests from civil rights activists by declaring that Ave Maria’s pharmacies will not be allowed to sell condoms or birth control pills. The town’s cable television network will carry no X-rated channels.

See above. I think it'd be fun for a whole lot of gays or swingers to roar through the town in convertibles, tossing around condoms like confetti, and flinging DVD-R's of X-rated films like frisbees. If anyone acts on this idea, please videotape it and post it to YouTube.

The town will be centred around a 100ft tall oratory and the first Catholic university to be built in America for 40 years. The university’s president, Nicholas J Healy, has said future students should “help rebuild the city of God” in a country suffering from “catastrophic cultural collapse”.

You've heard of cities that are sanctuary cities for illegal aliens? They'll probably make this a sanctuary city for child-molesting priests!

condom/toy drops on places in Georgia and Alabama that prohibit the sale of sex toys and birth control. I'm just amazed that nobody's lawyer mentioned that some of the plan might be illegal and quickly struck down (e.g. prohibiting abortion in the face of a Supreme Court decision).

Monaghan is the billionaire founder of Domino's Pizza who has used his wealth to bankroll groups such as Operation Rescue and the Thomas More Center for Law and Justice...

70. I faced them in court -- domestic terrorism up close
I faced them in court, working as a stenographer.

They were defendants in a civil case. Planned Parenthood and various doctors were plaintiffs.
I've seen all those familiar names, Flip Benham, Randall Terry, Don Treshman, etal. and it's traumatic as hell to be in the same room with them.

In fact, that case was what made me say, "I'll be GODDAMNED if I'll work in a courtroom again and be traumatized like that." And I never took down another trial. That was in 1994.

The shit-stirring started in '92 when they were picketing abortion clinics during the 1992 Repuke Convention in Houston, as a tie-in publicity stunt, and they got arrested, and the civil suit tied in because of their disruption of businesses and the picketing of doctors' houses, etc. I took down some of the temporary injunction hearing in 92, and it was traumatic then.

The female judge whose court this was in lost her job in the next election, due to the judgment for the plaintiffs of over $200,000, (by the jury of 12, NOT by the judge) and some hyper religious man was elected who could not understand why he couldn't post the ten commandments in his courtroom. He had to have that explained to him by the appellate court.

73. Wow, Perragrande. I remember back then how they were really out of control. That was the period
when they killed several doctors. It must have been awful to have to transcribe their statements in person....it was bad enough reading them in the papers or seeing them on television. I really hope they and their ilk are on a domestic terrorism watch list. They are very dangerous people.

77. statements that throw juries into shock
One of them was a lawyer reading the deposition of the mother of a young man (20 yrs old I think) who had firebombed an abortion clinic by putting a Molotov into the attic space. However, he left his wallet at the scene!! He was serving some long term at a Club Fed prison for arson. I remember the woman spoke in her deposition about how proud she was of her son for following his principles, etc. !!! Convicted felon. Club Fed. That made the jury shake their heads. :wow:

And then Don Treshman, local anti-abortion rectum, asked by Plaintiffs' counsel if he and his group condemned the murder of Dr. David Gunn in Florida. He answered, "We neither condone it, nor do we condemn it." :wtf:

Jury slides out of their chairs in shock. :wow:

78. I remember reading similar statements from the anti-abortion crowd after Dr. Gunn's murder.
They refused to condemn his murder. They are radical religious extremists who use the bible as their justification just like Bin Laden and his followers use the koran for theirs.

It must have been so difficult for you to have to digest every word spewed out by these people. I give you a lot of credit for being able to sit there quietly.

48. As an architect I'll say a good thing Tom did
was invest a lot of money saving and preserving Frank Lloyd Wright houses and design objects throughout the world. At one time he held the largest private collection of FLW furniture etc... but ultimately sold most of it off when money was needed.

62. I dont think there is too many inhabitants there yet.
It is right down the road from where i am no living in Fort myers, FL. It's in Collier County, near Naples. I understand his college is operating out of temporary quarters in Naples, waiting for the campus to be completed.

Hopefully, mother nature will see fit to wipe it off the map.

52. I'm more likely to not buy it because it tastes like crap
Look close enough into the politics of most chief officers of any major company and you'll probably find a reason not to buy anything.

I personally found the original "Delivery in 30 minutes or less or your pizza is free" policy more dangerous as it compelled the drivers to endanger themselves and others regardless of road conditions.

but I stopped buying their awful pizza years ago. No way am I going to throw money toward his kind of agenda. In fact when I learned about Domino's Pizza, I started looking into who owned what companies and found out how I could spend my money and have using Buyblue and other websites ever since.

65. Before I knew about this
I tried Domino's, once. It was, bar none, the grossest pizza ever.
Never ordered it again. And of course, now don't plan to, ever, in the future.
Doesn't stop them from sending me flyers in my mail every 2 days though. :eyes:

66. I don't care: Politics and Food are two different issues
I generally dislike Dominos because I used to work for them so I know how crappy their food is.

However in general I strongly disapprove of boycotting businesses based on political affiliations. It is one thing to boycott a business which advertises on a particularly vile commentators TV or Radio show. It is another to boycott a business because you disagree with the owners politics. Obviously *some* exceptions may apply...

That said the real reason you should stay away from Dominos is it tastes like shit and looks like cardboard with spraypaint which more than likely tastes better.

71. No problem.....allergic anyway
I don't eat pizza, I'm allergic to tomatoes. I eat pizza, the next day I feel horrible and have to stay in bed.

Now if I could just find an Italian place to eat that doesn't cover everything in tomatoes, and is reasonably priced......:banghead:

But since their pizza is pretty crappy, it wasn't something difficult to boycott.

BTW, I haven't touched Pizza Hut since they had Rush Limbaugh as a spokesperson back in 1993

76. Speaking of Boycotts - Curves CEO is a major anti-abortion nut
http://dir.salon.com/story/mwt/feature/2004/05/19/curves/index.html

Curve ball

Curves gym, with its no-stress workout for exercise-averse women, is the fastest-growing franchise in the U.S. But revelations that its founder gives millions of dollars to antiabortion groups has its customers divided over just what a "female-friendly" business is.

By Rebecca Traister
Pages 1 2 3 4

May 19, 2004 | If you live near a Curves health club (and with 7,500 of them dotting the U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico, trust us, you do), you may have barely noticed its unprepossessing exterior. Each location in the chain of women's gyms takes up only 1,000 to 1,800 square feet on a given sidewalk or strip mall, and is adorned with a violet-and-white awning bearing a Barbie-style scripted logo that makes the place look like a hair-scrunchie kiosk from 1986. But Curves' spare exteriors, and the minimalist fitness programming that goes on inside, have helped the chain become the country's fastest-growing franchise. It boasts nearly 3 million members, and is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest fitness center franchise. Curves locations are so ubiquitous that they seem to act as antimatter counterparts to business brethren like McDonald's and Starbucks, popping up on every corner to suck that extra fat right back.

But these days, the women's gym first franchised in 1995 by Waco, Texas, fitness entrepreneur and born-again Christian Gary Heavin is not just doing battle with the saturated-fat-mongers across the parking lot. The past month has seen a whirlwind of confusing press about how much -- if any -- of Curves' profits Heavin gives to anti-abortion groups, and what kind of anti-abortion groups. The storm has left Heavin, franchise owners, gym members and the media locked in a battle that illustrates the confusing powers of the press, the Internet, and political and religious conviction. What seems clear is that Heavin is a committed foe of abortion who has contributed his own money to health agencies that discourage terminating pregnancies; he even blasted a local chapter of the Girl Scouts in print for its associations with Planned Parenthood. But Texas Planned Parenthood leaders have praised some of the health centers Heavin funds, and some feminists continue to defend Curves as one of the most pro-woman health and business ventures in the country. The fracas, which has included imprecise reporting and a scattershot boycott, prompts the question: What does it mean for a business to be good for women?

Honestly, I think Monaghan will end up like David Koresh (or at least Warren Jeffs) in a couple of years. This town he's proposing is fundie land.
