Clark On Bush's Latest Special Interest Giveaway
Little Rock - On Tuesday, the Bush Administration finalized the opening of 300,000 acres of Alaska's Tongass National Forest for logging and other development. Now the timber industry will be able to clearcut trees in one of the most ancient forests in the world.

Wes Clark had a strong message for the Bush White House:

"As Americans gathered to celebrate the traditions of the holiday season, the Bush Administration practiced its own tradition - rolling back environmental protections when most Americans weren't looking.

It's wrong to announce gifts to your special interest supporters under cover of Christmas. American needs leadership that puts the people's interests above the special interests. That's the kind of leadership I'll bring back to White House."

I think one of his problems is that he IS too far ahead of where people want a leader to be right now. But just having his voice raised in support of his ideals is a good thing, no matter who wins the nom.

That Clark may be a bit ahead of where the masses are looking right now. But such is the way with leaders, they LEAD and pave the way to the future. They need to be above the fray but at the same time be able to relate to the pressing needs of people in the present. A major reason why I like Clark is because I think he strikes a perfect balance between these two positions.

I feel that now more than ever, we need a visionary leader to pull us forward. We've had way too many petty short-sighted politicians drag us into the mud over the years.

10. Yet another reason why I like Wes....

Assuming we somehow avoid an all-out nuclear holocaust in the next 10-20 years, our negligence of the environment will be the next biggest catastrophe that will face our nation and humanity as a whole. I want a leader who understands our place in nature and leads us with a humbler attitude toward the environment. I entrust Wes Clark to do that job for us because I believe with all my heart that he cares!

Here's the opening paragraph from his environmental protection policy which I encourage others to look at:

"America's natural resources - our air and water, seacoasts, mountains, wetlands, forests, prairies, and wilderness - are among the glories of this nation. They are a legacy passed down by those who have come before, and a birthright that we are honor-bound to preserve for future generations."

During one of his service assignments at a military base, Wes helped rescue an endangered species of turtles from extinction. He also held the chairmanship of Wavecrest, a developer of environmentally friendly energy efficient electrical motors, after he retired from the army.

But to give credit where credit is due, I must say that I also admire Senator Kerry for his consistent and outspoken stance on environmental issues throughout the years. Also, Kucinich is a great champion of the environment and sustainable economy.

I like these three men a lot for their honesty and wish them all the best of luck. I hope they all play a major role in any future Democratic administration regardless of who wins the nomination.

Yes, we are fortunate to have some good people fighting the fight against the Great Oily Polluters.

Clark's gift is his logical and analytical mind, which sees clearly to the problem and formulates a solution. In 50 years, while the ramifications of the IWR may still be felt, the issues and arguements will be tempered by time. That is not true in the case of the environment and the Constitution. This election is about what kind of America do we want to live in? What kind of America will we leave the generations who follow us?

Leaders stand up when no one else is standing.
