Stop Mitt Romney
As Governor Mitt Romney explores a presidential bid, he has grown outspoken in his criticism of illegal immigration. But, for a decade, the governor has used a landscaping company that relies heavily on workers like these, illegal Guatemalan immigrants, to maintain the grounds surrounding his pink Colonial house on Marsh Street in Belmont.

The Globe recently interviewed four current and former employees of Community Lawn Service with a Heart, the tiny Chelsea-based company that provides upkeep of Romney's property. All but one said they were in the United States illegally.

The employees told the Globe that company owner Ricardo Saenz never asked them to provide documents showing their immigration status and knew they were illegal immigrants.

"He never asked for papers," said Rosales, who said he had paid smugglers about $5,000 to take him across the US-Mexican border and settled in Chelsea.

2. I remember
seeing an article once by actually a right-wing magazine talking about how good immigrants, including illegals were for the US. They actually made the right-wing "economic benefit" argument for illegals. It was interesting, and surprising.

3. Republicans use illegal workers when the price is right and
bash them when the politics are right.

5. We can do this.
Hey, we Dems in MI stopped he-of-the-bottomless-pockets (Dick DeVos) while spending half as much money. Surely we can stop Mitt. Besides, I don't think the Fundies in the Church of the GOP will go for a Mormon, isn't Mitt a Mormon?

Yeah, he's stoppable. It's the more stealthy extremists we should worry more about IMO.

6. Mitt's been doing a "listening" tour of the fundies
He's been spending a lot of time touring the fundie/evangelical spots and assuring leaders and ministers that his Mormonism is nothing to be afraid of. He's touting his stands on abortion and gay marriage and using as evidence of his moral standing the fact that he is once married (to his HS sweetheart). With Frist out of the way he will sop up a lot of that support thatwould have gone to McCain. Guiliani is hopelessly compromised with the GOP primary voters and will not be a factor.
If there is one GOP candidate to wach out for it is Chuck Hagel. He is next door to Iowa in Nebraska and I think he will surprise a lot of people in the early going. Personally, he is the least offensive of all the possibilities to me, and if he were to become President I wouldn't be suicidal about it.

7. Romney could be good for us
I want to see another ugly fight for the gop nomination - maybe this time the media will pay attention and McCain will be shown for the slimebag he is. Romney will barely make it out of the gate, and as the earlier poster said, he'll stop himself, but why not keep him around for the spectator sport of it?

9. he can only fool people for so long, though
I don't think his religion will never play with the fundies.
