Who here has heard the candidates speak in person?
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 03:48 PM by aldian159
Me, I was at the JJ Iowa Dimmer 11/15 where Gep, Dean, Edwards, DK, JK, and CMB spoke. Plus I heard JK speak here in Chicago on 12/15.

Who else here has heard either their candidate or another candidate speak this primary season?

Isn't it cool? I mean, I'm 19, this is my first election, and while I cared about politics before, it was nothing like after the JJ dinner.

edit for spelling.

9. Edwards once, Kerry once
and I was sorry to miss Clark on Saturday (I'm in Virginia.)

Edwards sounded good, but his speech was exactly the same as his commercials so I didn't learn anything new.

I just saw Kerry today at lunchtime, and he was great. He had lots of energy and he talked about many things (health care, tax cuts, military spending, etc.) He is a very good speaker, and I came away more impressed with him that before. I'll probably vote for him tomorrow.

Clark, Lieberman, and Sharpton weren't there (Clark wasn't yet "declared"). I saw Kucinich up close. I first went to the Dean rally nearby and heard Howard speak there, then again to the Steak Fry.

I was at that rally in Nashua at Daniel Webster College. My dad was one of the combat vets holding the flag and I was holding the "four stars, we had seen and met him the day before so we were in the bleachers. My son and I were passing out literature that day. We flew in from NV to help in NH for the 5 days.

I was actually part of the entertainment at the rally where he spoke. He's coming back to MN on the 21st, and I plan to see him/do advance work for him when he's here.

He's got to be one of the greatest speakers alive today. He is truly inspirational.

27. Kucinich twice
I'm a supporter because of what I heard and saw and the energy I felt at his first appearance in August.

To my knowledge, he's the only one who has spoken in the Twin Cities in a public forum available to us ordinary folks. (Don't flame me if I'm wrong. I honestly can't recall anyone else coming through to speak to other than high rolling contributors, although that may change as our caucus approaches.)

32. Clark too numerous to mention
Clark: 10/29 DC, 11/3 NH, 12/4 DC, 1/6-11 NH, 1/20-27/NH, 2/7 VA
Dean: 1/26 NH
Edwards: 1/26 NH

Brings me to a point, everyone needs and deserves to see these guys (gals) up close. We need a rotating first primary so that one state doesn't hog them for months on end. Let's make it more fair....

41. Dennis three times
Once at the early forum in Stillwater, Ok, the reception afterwards, then in October in OKC. It would be four if you count the time he called us at the Light Up America Dinner in December. He was supposed to conference call all the locations at once and there was a problem getting the connection so he took the time and effort to call us all individually. The man just rocks!!

Nothing can compare to listening to him speak in person. He is so right on target and fluid.

56. Edwards 3 times.
- First time was good. It wasn't a friendly crowd, but they REALLY warmed up to him, and passers-by joined the crowd. When it was over and I turned around to see how many people were there, I was stunned.

- Second time he gave the speech he gave at the Commonwealth Club, which is probably the best political speech I've ever heard.

http://www.commonwealthclub.org/archive/03/03-12edwards-audio.html

- Third time it was a third speech, but I'd already heard it on CSPAN, so I was paying more attention to the people around me.
