I totally agree with your post. I so regret the circumstances that put our fine troops in this awful situation in the first place. And after watching Winter Soldier last night on Sundance, about the experiences of our soldiers in Viet Nam, well, their time in Iraq and Afghanistan will put a toll on them that hasn't been calculated yet.
It's been my personal tradition to get completely hammered on Thanksgiving Eve, and I've done a pretty good job over the years of maintaing said tradition. Back in the day it was a very "rowdy" sort of Wednesday night, I admit, with all of the old crew (pre-marriage and pre-babies, natch).
Tonight I invited two very big Dem friends to my house to celebrate Thanksgiving Eve and we drank and commiserated, and I'm trying to not despair over the news. Not just Iraq (although that is THE issue), but the stories of our wildlife and habitat, and the generally shitty condition of the world.
We read how a local state Republican politician "joined" Rep Frank Wolf (VA-10) in condemning the genocide in Sudan. Fair enough. But politically, that's an easy call. If these same Rs came out fully against the war we're waging in Iraq, then I might give them a little kudos. And Mr. Wolf gets ZERO credit from this constituent about his "recommendation" to the White House for the Iraq Study Group. Oversight is HIS job, not James Baker's.
I hope all of you have a nice reprieve from the otherwise harsh realities of the world this Thanksgiving.
Peace.
