There is going to be a huge upset tomorrow in Tenn.
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 03:04 PM by deminflorida
The first five E-Blockers I called today for Clark have indicated that they were either going to vote for or have already voted for Wes Clark, and I don't think they where telling me something I wanted to hear. The 2nd and 3rd caller wanted to know how they could help with the calling campaign!

Cities were Ashland, Tazewell, Pleasant Hill, Brentwood, and Nashville.

These are distances apart!!!

2. congrats!
calling people over the phone and asking for support is hard enough; getting that support is very tough.

Good show for the general, a candidate i could not only live with, but embrace.

3. Same experience here
On my second set of calls yesterday... I got four answering machines, and six live voices. One said they weren't voting, one said they were voting for Edwards, and the other four said they were voting for Clark. One guy said, "Y'all outta here that George Jones commercial!"

George Jones + Tennessee... "The Race is ON!" LOL

4. That's good to hear!
People just driving down 2nd Avenue in Nashville were honking at my son's sign and giving a thumbs up last night - it sure seemed Clark friendly!

His sign read "Wesley Clark He took 4 bullets - Give him Tennessee!"

5. I live in Nashville and have my whole life.....
Clark is doing well enough, but the sheeple are cresting the mountain just in time to follow Kerry over the cliff. Edwards is running strong as well. Kerry will win by an overwhelming margin and second place will be a fight to the finish. The fight between Clark and Edwards has been really ugly with alot of very nasty he said, he said stuff. I think Edwards will edge out Clark in the end as it "appears" that he has been just a little bit nastier than Edwards. Edwards really relies on that "I'm one of you and I'm not running a negative campaign" spiel and the southern gentry just eat it up.
I don't have a dog in this fight, so I have no axe to grind, I'm just reporting what I've seen and observed here at the local level.

10. Possible
Edwards really relies on that "I'm one of you and I'm not running a negative campaign" spiel and the southern gentry just eat it up.

Problem is, not only is Edwards running a negative campaign, his campaign is flat out lying on occasion. (Witness his claim to have "tied" in Oklahoma and came in third in NH.)

Almost everything about Edwards, from his voting record to his campaign lying, is turning me off from him. And certain of his supporters aren't helping matters any. I really dislike Kerry, but I'd support Kerry before Edwards right now. Edwards sounds and acts like Lieberman-lite.

Hopefully, the voters in VA and TN will see though Edwards charades. Because right now he's not impressing me as a voter.

6. Another one that'll need certification for a clear winner.
In my e-blocking, it seems Tenneseeans are thrilled with pride regarding their new political importance. Just like Oklahoma.

I hope you're right. I think it's gonna go down to the wire.

7. Are you given a list of democrats or just a list of residents?
Tazewell and Brentwood and Ashland City I really think of as Republican territory but there are of course Democrats everywhere.

Go Wes!

8. They're eblocking Clark leaners. You're getting out the vote. You're not
randomly calling all voters.

Don't get your hopes up.

15. Because that's what they do the day before the election.
It's quite possible that they reserve the targeted list for people in the HQ and give out the againsts and undecideds on the web. But it's more likely that you're targeting pro-Clark people the day before.

20. Uhhhhhh
How the hell would they know who the "Clark leaners" are?

The "targeted" list is a list of those voters on the rolls who voted in the last Democratic Primary, which was the 2002 race for Governor.

We're calling Democrats. Period.

22. Party Affiliation - unknown
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 05:21 PM by democratreformed
That's what my list that I used Saturday night in Memphis said. So, there are some people calling other voters as well. Our waitress yesterday at lunch said she made up her mind after people from the campaign called her 4 TIMES Saturday night. She took our button and put it on her apron right there in the restaraunt.

27. Are you new to politics?
The same way the Kucinich campaign is the ONLY campaign that has been calling me - becuase they KNOW I lean torwards Kucinich.

How do they know?

1. My name and voting registration info was on a petition thousands signed to get Dennis on the ballot. (I am sure other candidates had such petitions) Obviously I am a possible Kucinich supporter to sign this.

2. I have donated to the campaign and they have my contact info that way. Obviously I am a possible Kucinich supporter to donate to his campaign.

3. I have signed up for the Kucinich mailing lists. Obviously I am a possible Kucinich supporter if I am interested in mail from them.

4. I have signed up to volunteer. They have my contact info that way. Obviously I am a possible Kucinich supporter if I am volunteering for him.

Probably a few more things too that I am not thinking of. Combine the upper 4 points and you have a list of THOUSANDS of supporters. EVERY candidate has the upper 4 points that they can draw their supporters (or likely supporters) info from. THAT is how "the hell" they know who Clark leaners are.

Seriously people - use some common sense. Unless you have done NOTHING to help get your candidate the nomination the respective campaigns know who you are and that you support them.

33. Of course the Clark campaign knows
who Clark leaners are. I've done GOTV for many years and that is one target for phone banks. However, the eBlocks we use and what we are talking about here are not targeted to Clark leaners, but to general voters regardless of affiliation. Every campaign does not necessarily work the same way.

35. No I'm not new.
I'm not using the eblock lists. I'm using printouts of people who voted in a Democratic Primary at the phone bank.

I know where these lists I'm using came from because I'm on the Executive Committee of my county Party.

The eblock lists may be something else again from the phone bank lists.

responses from everyone I seen. I have called as well. I met people who were voting for Bush and people who were voting for other members that are running. I can assure you that it isn't a list of Clark supporters.

34. I think someone must be nervous about Clark
I am seeing the exact type of activity on this board as I did before the NH primary. People posting that they support Clark, but that they are discouraged. People suddenly talking about when he will pull out. It made me down right nostalgic, so I went back into archives and found this thread; "I am a Wesley Clark Supporter Who Is A Wesley Clark Supporter". I couldn't post to it anymore or I would have kicked it. But if you get a chance visit it. Same old same old. They really want to kill Clark off, and I do believe they are nervous of the implications if they fail for a third straight time. Here is the link:

37. My lists had "unknown" party affiliation people on them.
I assumed they came from voter rolls--maybe targeted to folks who had voted in a Dem primary sometime or another--but still largely unknown entities in this race. Hubby had a couple lists that were Dems--so who can say what the criterion was for that list sort?

I think Clark does make some folks nervous--and that is fine by me. He's a good man, IMO, and I don't care if he's with the "silly party" or any other as long as he can beat the chimp and send him back to Texas. I think many others feel that same way... His platform and his stated opinions are such that I am comfortable with him, and I am an openly progressive Dem.

Clark seems to inspire a loyalty in people. He seems to bring a passion and love for this nation that I've not seen in a long time, and THAT makes me passionate about him in return. I'm working hard to remember when I've carried this much loyalty to any Presidential candidate in a primary.

I remain optimistic for Wes Clark. I think this will be a fine day for him and all his supporters.

Laura
