Bush Responds To Indonesian Protest By Touting His "Hard Decisions" On Iraq

<snip>

“It’s not the first time people have shown up to express their views on my policies. That’s what happens when you make hard decisions.”

This is a classic example of Bush spin. Bush's decision to ignore intelligence saying there was no link between Iraq and Al Qaeda? "Hard." Bush's decision not to reign in people in his administration from continuing to make that connection? "Hard." Bush's decision not to listen to generals who said we needed more troops in Iraq from the get-go? "Hard." Bush's decision to not have any communication with potential terror threats Iran and Syria? "Hard." Bush's decision to demonize Americans who oppose his decisions? "Hard."

1. yes.
. . . and his head is damned hard . . . but not as hard as his cold, gun-metal heart.

2. Iraq doesn't strike me as something he found hard to decide
He just did it like he had a perfect right to invade countries.
People will also show up to "express their views" when you make vicious and stupid decisions, Mr. Bush. I wish you'd consider if perhaps this is not one of those occasions.

5. I still don't understand why he is verbalizing the ideas that
so many have discredited with their protests AND their votes.

lately I've been thinking that 911 traumatized him so much that he is still incapable of seeing the world any other way. (Bet there's a paper in that, somehow, if one hasn't already been written.) ;) I have never encountered any other public figure that seems so incapable of insight!

6. honestly,
i think he's hoping things stabilize by 2008, and then all the "cut and run liberals" will look bad, and the Republicans will win back Congress.

It's a political strategy, vs. a flexible strategy based on the facts at hand. it also would allow bush to look correct, in keeping with the "ultimately, history will prove us right" school of thought.
