How far are the Democrats willing to go on "ethics reform"?
Or do most of them agree with Murtha that it's a "bunch of crap"? Will they put forth public financing of elections? I am not so naive to believe that there are not Democrats that enjoy the present political cushion as much as the Republicans do. Will they create an oversight board for the Ethics Committee in the House? Will they put limits on the lobbyists and K-Street operatives? Will they stop the Christmas tree add-ons to bills, that benefit individual districts?
It is my opinion that this is very important to the American people. If the Democrats could make significant and visible progress in this area, it could only help them in their next election. First thing they could do is simply not give themselves another pay raise. This would be a good first step.
