Homeless veterans honored by Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- On Veterans Day, 47 homeless veterans were honored at a dinner at the Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries.

UT's Air Force ROTC cadets were on hand to serve these veterans food, and honor them with pins, salutes and handshakes.

Dan Hurst, a former veteran and Knoxville business man says it's important to remember their sacrifice. "They served us when we needed them and they need us now and we're here to serve them."

These homeless veterans served in the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. They came home and found themselves with nothing.

One of the concerns is that these veterans are having difficulty finding jobs when they come home. Housing prices and rental prices have skyrocketed while wages have stayed about the same. They cannot make ends meet.

This, added to the stress of returning home from war is causing many veterans to suffer psychological problems.

1. "Homeless veterans honored" Now there's an oxymoron.
Please tell me how there's honor in allowing any veteran to be homeless.

4. You know what would honor those guys .....
.... and the guys from the Viet Nam war, now four decades gone and four decades on the streets, is a fucking job and a fucking medical benefit and a fucking place to live.

As we 'celebrate' Veterans Day, why does no one in the 'mainstream' speak about the compact broken and the promises unkept?

If these men are Iraq/Afghanistan vets, where will *they* be in 40 years?
