I have a huge fear that Dems will capitulate once again after regaining power.

For too many freaking years they have gone along to get along, and put all the attacks on the Constitution aside.

Is Kerry capable of delivering some "accountability" to Bushco and the VRWC?

Or not?

Because they won't stop trying to seize power until they feel some pain.

1. Hey, he led the investigations on Iran-Contra and BCCI
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 03:09 AM by Old and In the Way
No fault of his that the political forces let the perps slide. He showed willingness to investigate.

I think this time it will be different for 2 reasons.

(1) He can apply the forces of the Presidency to address these issues (although he's going to need, at minimum, a bi-partisan majority to work the issues).

(2) Democrats have the power of the internet and a whole lot more inormation about the actions of the players. ANd we are a lot more pissed with what we know and understand why we need to purge the neo-cons out of our government.

Think about that. If we had had the Internet back in the 80's when we were investigating the South American death squads, etc., I think there would have been a whole lot different outcome if we had all been as wired in, as we are now.

2. I am thinking.
My bet is he lets it slide. As a unity gesture.

4. he'd better not!
We're in this situation because the wingnutz have gone without suffering any consequences of their actions.

I cannot imagine the parents of the 500+ dead soldiers allowing this to slide. The same goes for a true investigation into 9/11.

3. The Democrats can hold hearings.
He can support them, and we can try to see that they get coverage.

But he will have the repuke majority in Congress, and the corporate media against him.

I think he might try. Especially when he is in a position to see the real damage they have done.

He might not get far, but who knows? I think more scandals are due to break.

5. I sure hope he does something...I'm wondering about
all the radical rw laws and "acts" and bills that have already been passed. CAN THE DEMS OVERTURN THIS CRAP? or are we stuck with the Patriot act forever? etc...

I'm worried about those things.

6. It's up to Congress to investigate...
If anyone is expecting a new Democratic President to conduct some sweeping investigation, you're going to be disappointed. The GOP Congress will not investigate Bush.

7. I'm not conceding
a rethug Congress just yet. If ever there was a reason for the Country to be angry at a political party NOW is the time. The crimes and evil of these politicians make the People's problem with the Democrats in 1994 look very small. What we need however is something rarely seen in our side, UNITY! If the Democratic majority can get their act together and present an explanation of why the extreme right agenda has been so harmful and come up with a counteragenda it would be a landslide. I am hoping for FAIR elections of course.
