From todays newsletter put out by a group called Progressives at TC CommonSense.org Evidently, a copy was forwarded to the offending radio station. *********************************
The recent election is not only a referendum on Bush Philosophy, it is also a rejection of those extremists who spout it in our media. America has said to these pundits "Your message is off course, and it does not sell"
Recently, a TC Common Sense member heard a local radio personality bashing the homosexual community, and their political endorsements under the guise of morality wrapped in a flag. Our brave soul called the owner of the radio station and lodged her complaint. She followed up with a well written letter to the DJ.
This may seem like an infringement upon an individuals right to free speech, but there must be a point where a media persons opinion intersects the policy of the company which employs them. This episode is reminiscent of a pistol wielding preacher in 1800's whipping a mob into a frenzy. We should not tolerate local media personalities inciting hatred, violence, or bashing any group of people. The flash of a covered nipple at a sports event is more dangerous than this?
We have all suffered long enough from these hateful voices. We are ALL Americans, and the political pressures that use media to vigilantize mobs against our citizens must be questioned. This case is not one of morality, it is one of greed and bigotry being covered with a flag and a halo. Lets consider all similar acts as the real desecration of our flag.
It is our responsibility to confront those in the media who misuse their position. I am sure there are no shortage of people willing to take a job as a DJ. They must be accountable, and they can be replaced.
