3. As an outsider
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 09:36 PM by sushi
who is following the American election, I would like to tell you that I think Senator John Kerry looks presidential. He is tall and grey and speaks very well. In short, he looks distinguished. Perfect for the Oval Office.

One thing I would like to know. Why is being a "Liberal from Massachusetts" a minus? I also think he could have a problem with the gay marriage issue, but his Vietnam record is a plus.

He is also my choice! Good luck.

9. I asked that question
because I see the republicans are accusing him of being a liberal from Mass. They use it to attack.

14. Almost every Democrat has a soft spot for the Kennedy's
Almost every republican hates them. They would like to pull our icon down, turn the average Joe away. Good luck to that!

I recall that many of the senior homes I have visited have two standard portraits on their walls. One of Jesus and the other John Kennedy. In African-American households there are normally three portraits: Jesus, John Kennedy, and Martin Luther King.

24. Isn't it amazing
that Senator Kerry is also a JFK? So far it looks like he is going to be the candidate. I hope he will handle the gay marriage issue with tact.

21. Republicans use the "Massachussetts liberal" attack
because they believe a liberal can't win a national election. They believe this because since Franklin Delano Roosevelt, no true liberal has won the presidency. McGovern (1972), Mondale(1984) and Dukakis (1988) were all considered liberals and all lost in landslide defeats. So the Republicans use it as a line of attack because it has worked in the past -- they smear the liberal candidate as being for high taxes, being weak on defense, being wimpy, etc.

But it won't work this time. Kerry is liberal, but tough as nails and fiscally responsible -- the Republican's worst nightmare.

25. Thank you
for explaining "Massachusetts Liberal."

I hope you're right, that it won't work this time. I think (most of) the world is hoping for the Democrats to win.

I'm starting to get spoiled. If we don't get 50% or more of the vote I'm disappointed.

20. I certainly think so!
Maine has more Dems than GOP but more Independents than either of them.

All I've been hearing for weeks now is that we need to get rid of Bush. I think Bush is toast here in Maine.

22. Now we just need a clean sweep on Tuesday
A win in both VA and TN would spell the end of Clark and Edwards (even if they don't drop out), then we'll just have Dean left to deal with in Wisconsin (which should be easy according to the polls I've seen).

23. The polls have Kerry
Ahead of both Clark and Edwards in those two states.
WHen you looks at Deans record over the last 12 states now, he has done very poorly in at least half of them, and only well in a few. Kerry is doing better at this point in the campaign cycle than anyone has done in the past 25 odd years. Considering that there are still stil six people in the race for Kerry to be picking up nearly half of all of the votes is a phenomenal accompishment. Dean has gotten 25 or 30 percent in a few of the races but in most he was at 15 percent or below, which clearly indicates that he does not have broad baseed support, and you can say pretty much the sme about Edwards and Clark, who are not doing very well in certain areas. Kerry is the only candidate who has recieved substantial percenetages of the votes in every state he has run in.
