Be Aware: Classic Repig Rope-A-Dope Strategy at Work
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 09:09 PM by stopbush
Have you noticed the news reports of late?: even some repugs are wary of the pretzledent's actions. It's the "questions" about the WMD, the budget, the deficit and on and on. Pat Buchanan has questions. So does John McLaughlin. So does George Will. So does John McCain.

H-m-m-m? Where is Orrin Hatch in all this?

Why do I bring up Hatch? Well, because Hatch is the guy the repigs have been rolling out for the last 15 years to legitimize each and every fixed investigation they've run in Washington. Hatch is always the one who gets out there and states that he "has problems if the (insert name of repug politician) has been less than candid" with the American people. Or, he's the guy who rushes to defend some Dem who's under assault with his "let's wait until the facts are in" feint.

Yet at the end of the day, Hatch always, always ALWAYS exonerates the repig under question and ends up condemning the Dem "now that I know all the facts." But Hatch is in the dog house with repigs now because he's let a certain little repig problem stay alive and mushroom into a major embarrassment.

Since Hatch is "occupied," the repigs have called in the second team to pinch hit. Ergo the stream of hard-nosed repigs like Buchanan and McLaughlin "attacking" the pretzledent on...whatever.

Rest assured, they will all not only fall in line by November, but they will to a person be once again praising bush for his "principled stands...especially now that the evidence has made it clear that he was telling the truth all along," at least as soon as Rove decides it's time to close ranks.

So the next time you find your mouth uttering phrases like "I can't believe it, but I'm find myself agreeing with Pat Buchanan," or "man, McLaughlin was really bashing bush today,"...think again.

1. What problem did Hatch allow to stay alive?

I don't understand.

2. Here ya go
By Christopher Smith
The Salt Lake Tribune

WASHINGTON -- Two months after a "mortified" Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Orrin Hatch announced his own staffer had helped perpetrate a cyber-theft of confidential Democratic plans to block President Bush's federal judge nominees, his forthright handling of the scandal has boomeranged.

Republican conservatives, normally his staunchest allies, are furious at Hatch for initiating a wide-ranging investigation that has allowed the focus of the scandal to shift to the leak, rather than the incriminating content of the electronic memos. Republican senators, conservatives and the Right's oracle, Rush Limbaugh, have questioned the Utah senator's dedication to the judicial confirmation crusade and suggested that his celebrated friendship with liberal Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts -- one of the two Democrats on the committee whose private files were poached -- is coloring his judgment.

3. Thanks..I hadn't seen that one
I forgot about the Hatch link to all that. I also agree that Hatch seems strangely silent on all the recent scandals.

6. Problem in your theory
Buchanan was against this war from the get-go.

Buchanan may be a racist isolationist paleoconservative, but he's an intellectually honest racist isolationist paleoconservative.

7. But don't you see, that makes my theory even more plausible!!
Pat's doing an elongated slow burn. When push comes to shove in October, he'll say, "Look, I was against this war from the get go, but in the end, bush had to do it. He deserves to be re-elected." ;)
