So much for Sen. Bob Grahm as VP
Especially in the Florida migrant worker community.

Farmworkers sue Graham family company over wages
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/breaking_news/7837485.htm

A dairy farm owned by the family of U.S. Sen. Bob Graham is being sued by farmworkers who claim they are not being paid minimum wage.

Attorney Greg Schell, who represents the workers, said the alleged violations of federal law occurred over the past four years and involved as many as 200 workers employed by Graham Farms of Moore Haven in Glades County. Graham Farms is a division of The Graham Cos., based in Miami Lakes. The senator is a director of that firm.

The suit, which seeks class-action status, was filed Thursday in Miami federal court.

"They're apparently paying these employees $4 per hour and then adding some kind of bonus which they say brings the gross pay over the minimum wage of $5.15," Schell said. "But they keep no records so there is no way to prove that is true and the workers say they are owed money."

Not good on a resume there Bob!

1. we need more facts
these are allegations. in 2000 elections the right wing brought up some couple which was staying at a place al gore owned. they got the couple to say things about how they weren't treated well and other things. i can't remember what came of it, but it seemed like it was just right wingers using them to lie about gore. i'm sure they were bought off.

2. There's 2 strikes here
1) no minimum wage

2) non-union farm workers

This doesn't exactly make labor want to get out and work their butts off. Of course, FL's not known as a pro-labor state. South FL has it's share at the hotels and other industries. But the sentiment throughout the state seems to me to be pretty anti-labor.

Reminds me of the VERY VERY first Jobs With Justice Rally at the CWA Convention in 1987. The camera guys (NABET) were on strike and we were blocking all the scab network cameras from filming anything about the rally. The network news (CNN, CBS, ABC et al) wanted footage because like 5 of the 7 or 8 1988 presidential candidates were in attendance.

But this has nothing to do with the topic of this thread ...I digress.

4. So much for innocent until proven guilty huh?
I'm not going to believe that Graham is responsible for wrongdoing s until I see some proof. Until then, he is still the best candidate, by far, for vice president, if the nominee is John Kerry, or Wesley Clark
