1. Thanks. I was going to ask this but...
...didn't want to get yelled at. I'm seeing conflicting information in numerous places. Unfortunately I was unable to watch any news or coverage or be on line last night.

4. Yep -- Webb declared victory after 1 AM
He's not the kind of guy who's going to blow hot air. He knows the absentee ballots left are going to widen his margin:

3. I went to bed at 3 am...
so I know a bit about it.

Basically, Webb beat Allen with 99% in. Allen came out and didn't concede. Webb came out and declared victory.

The numbers tightened afterwards but Webb still holds a lead. The next thing on the agenda is a statewide canvass of the precincts to check the official tally for errors. That has probably already begun today. If there are no major discrepancies, Allen can wait until the remaining precincts come in (mostly Webb votes), absentee ballots (overwhelmingly military IIRC) and provisional ballots (Webb votes as well).

If Allen is still behind after all that, he can wait until certification of the vote total (later this month I think) and can request a full recount. If he is .5% behind or less, the state pays for it so he will likely request it. If he is between .51% and 1% behind, he has to pay the recount costs. Anything over 1%, I believe, is not guaranteed and they may go to court.

If anyone else has anything to add, or if I erred in any way, by all means let me know. I was in bed at 3am and was so excited I woke up at 730am wanting to find out about MT.

7. Nope -- you got it all!
I think we'll win this one -- very thinly, but a win is a win. And, back in early August, who would have thunk it???

8. I think we'll win too..
and until "macaca" I would have given Allen a considerable percentage of the Republican vote in the South for a 2008 run. Now he is toast. For the first time in a long time, I feel good about the US.
