Denver Action Alert: PIZZA TO THE POLLS! Need your help DU!
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 07:05 PM by Pachamama
I'm posting this from downtown SF where I'm working out of theMMOB and Working Assets War Room where we have been getting reports from pollworkers across the country. We have been taking calls all day from across the country and there are problems everywhere, but the situation in Denver is outrageous. Their polls close in 2 1/2 hours at 7PM Mountain time.

Machines have been down, electronic voting lists of registered voters down, running out of paper ballots, long lines of up to 2 hours and people walking away in droves.

We are putting out an urgent call to anyone in Denver who can help out! If you have the time and any resources available to go buy some pizzas or bottled water or powerbars and can pick a voting center and go help the people standing in line at the voting centers and keep their spirits up. Go. Bring food, bring drink, bring your musical instruments. Make a party. Help the time pass and help keep people in line. People already in line when the polls close will be allowed to
vote. Help keep those people from being disenfranchised.

To find a voting center, go to this website:
http://www.denvergov.org/councildistrict10/template116966.asp

Also, please report all problems to VoterAction.org at 1-888-SAV-VOTE

:kick:

UPDATE: Any Denver DUer who can go down to a voting center in Denver, please let me know - I'm even willing to personally "sponsor" your pizzas and water if you can do this! Please PM me ASAP! We have to prevent Voters from being disenfranchised.

6. So do I - I'm here in San Francisco and I feel sick to my stomach right now!
I can't even begin to tell you how bad the reports are, but its dire...machines down, no paper ballots, people waiting forever and finally having to leave. Then when a legal request was made to keep the polls open, the judge says no.

All I can do right now is get the word out and tell people to go down and help in whatever way they can.

16. Check your state
This is not an isolated problem. Maybe you could act locally... And thank you for your good wishes.

10. Great Idea!
As a mom who has a babysitter at home with the kids while I watch this nightmare unfold and try to call and blog till my fingers bleed, I can tell you that helping out with kids makes a difference too!

That means if you can't go down to the voting centers in Denver but know someone who can but they need someone to watch their kids, then collectively we can help get people down there.

The situation is absolutely insane right now...we have pollworkers calling us and telling us the most outrageous reports. If we can having people going down there and encouraging people to stay in line, then we have some hope for Denver and Colorado.

We just heard that Ohio and some other states are keeping the polls open longer...why this judge in Denver did not extend the times is unbelievable, so lets keep the people there until they get their vote counted.

19. Not yet - If you can post it in the Colorado forum and tell people to PM me, then we can try to get
some DUers in Colorado down there and to see if we can sponsor them and help out.

People may have to be standing at the polls till midnite in Denver if they make it there before the polls close at 7PM.

22. What a neighborly thing to do
Pachamama, thank you so much for spreading this idea around. I'm called more than a few friends in various places and urged them to do as you suggest. Maybe people will be in line - and celebrating - late into the night.

23. Long lines are a wide spread problem
fortunately, there is a wide-spread solution. So, DUers, useful to check out the polling places convenient to you. If you find one with long lines, organize a little spirit-lifting event. Check in here and tell us which areas you are covering... we've just learned the Prince Georges county - in MD - is having all sorts of trouble. People standing in lines there could use a little boost.
