Kerry now has more delegates than all of his opponents COMBINED
Kerry: 409
Dean: 174
Edwards: 116
Clark: 82
Sharpton: 12
Kucinich: 2

If he keeps up at this pace, he will get the majority of delegates, making the brokered convention dream that some have impossible.

5. Neither is Kerry.... He's got nearly half of the voters....
But the rest of us persist in supporting the other, better candidates for what we see as the good of the party and the nation.

It would be great if we could unite to form a solid wall against the media and establishment feuled Kerry juggernaut, but there just may not be enough time

4. I heard reports that
Kerry supporters we're sullen withdrawn people at the caucuses. Probably intimidated by overzealous Dean people.

Maybe caucuses are a bad idea. I kind of figured people would be more civil face to face than they are on the internet.

Perhaps the privacy of the voting booth is the way to go for elections (with a paper trail of course).

8. I'd like to see those reports

Sounds like the ranting of sore losers.

I saw nothing like that.

I was at my caucus in Washington yesterday, which appeared to be fairly evenly divided between Dean & Kerry supporters. (23 delegates for Kerry, 19 for Dean, 7 for Kucinich). It was passionate at times, but most of the speakers promoting a candidate were very positive, only two were at all negative, bashing the other candidate rather than extolling the virtues of the one they supported. Geniph was the last speaker, and she talked about how she thought ALL the candidates were good, deserving people, she loved them all and would support any of them as the eventual nominee, and she got the longest, loudest applause of all the speakers. I didn't see any threatening behavior. I didn't even see any of the rather boorish behavior that's so commonmplace here on DU.

We also went to the Caucus returns party that the state Democratic Party held Saturday afternoon, and I have to say it wasn't anything like what you find here. All the candidates supporters mixed well, and socialized, I didn't see or hear any arguments, nobody sat in a corner a sulked. Everybody cheered their candidates loudly (the Clark contingent was the smallest, but loudest) and whenever one of the speakers talked about beating bush, they brought the house down. Every Democrat in that room was dedicated to unseating Bush, regardless of which candidate they were supporting.

10. Good
Glad to hear that story. I've always been under the assumption that people are more civil to each other when they're face to face than they are on the internet (even with moderators). Having said that, the intensity of some posters here does make me wonder if I'd want to be in a caucus room with them.

6. Kaus on delegate count
Crude Wishful Thinking Reality Check: If you a) take the number of delegates Kerry has won so far (a little over 200, by my calculation) and b) add the number of superdelegates he already has according to the N.Y. Times (101) and c) assume he wins the remaining elected delegates at the same rate he's been winning them (approx. 52%) and d) assume, generously, he gets all the currently uncommitted superdelegates (492)--Kerry still doesn't mathematically wrap up the nomination on March 9, the date of the huge 10 state superprimary, by my admittedly insomniac algebra. .... He'll be close to 200 delegates short of the magic 2,192 number. ... Even if Kerry wins over all of Howard Dean's superdelegates (121), he's still a few votes short. ... After March 9, more than 1,200 delegates will still remain to be chosen in primaries and caucuses. ... Am I missing something, or doesn't the nomination race usually come down to this sort of counting? And if it does, don't Democrats still have at least a month to get cold feet? ... 5:05 A.M.

7. Kaus describes this as wishful thinking, and for once I agree with him.
