Clark, Edwards Say They'll Stay in Race
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&ncid=536&e=1&u=/ap/20040208/ap_on_el_pr/democrats

WASHINGTON - Democrats Wesley Clark (news - web sites) and John Edwards (news - web sites) said Sunday they will not be deterred by John Kerry (news - web sites)'s decisive wins in Michigan and Washington state and will stay in the presidential race indefinitely.

Clark told CNN's "Late Edition" that he expected to do well in contests in Tennessee and Virginia on Tuesday, and in Wisconsin on Feb. 17. But even if he didn't win in any of those states, Clark pledged to remain in the race at least through the March 2 "Super Tuesday" primaries, including in California, Ohio and New York.

"We've got a lot of support across this country," said Clark, a retired Army general. "We do expect to go on and do expect to be there on Super Tuesday."

In separate interviews on "Fox New Sunday" and ABC's "This Week," Edwards noted that some 75 percent of delegates to the Democratic National Convention will be up for grabs after the Wisconsin primary.

1. It only makes sense.
Both candidates are in it for the long haul. As long as they have support & money coming in, they should stay in the race. Trying to anoint a person before super Tuesday is ridiculous

4. look at the numbers....
If Clark and Edwards stay in and if Dean is foced out, Clark and/or Edwards will get most of the Dean supporters, the ones not discouraged, and together they would form a formidable coalition, which could challenge Kerry if it were to go beyond Super Tuesday, if Kerry does not have the number of delegates required. And it would be difficult for him to have those numbers with so many good candidates in the race, in my opinion. I could see it going all the way to the convention and the only way Kerry could get the number of delegates needed would be to offer the VP slot to either Edwards or Clark...Then he would have sufficient number of delegates for nomination...

5. More important. Having 3 guys like Kerry, Edwards, and Clark up on...

...the stage together for 5 or 6 debates with no bells, whistles, or other distractions where they can all tear hell out of of the current administration. That would be devastating for Bush.

7. Good. They should stay for now, but
Sharpton should get out. He doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell.

12. That's not the reason he should drop out
Sharpton is being supported by a known GOP operative. That puts into question his motives. I don't believe that Sharpton should be allowed to stay in and act as a hitman for the GOP. Kucinich, however, is a true Democrat, and he should stay in as long as he desires. As a Dean supporter, I would rather Dennis dropped out, but that should be his decision, and not forced upon him by the the media or Terry McAuliffe.
