Katherine Harris says she's trying to sell D.C. home to raise cash for campaign

DAYTONA BEACH -- With her campaign low on cash, U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris said Tuesday that she is trying to sell her house in Washington, D.C., to raise money for her fight against Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson.

"I am even selling my home," Harris said before a speech here. "I'm committed."

Harris has talked about selling her Washington, D.C., home for months, but former staffers have said they saw no sign she was preparing to do so. On Tuesday, two Washington real-estate agents said there is no indication the four-bedroom house near Capitol Hill was ever placed in the multiple-listing service, a database of properties for sale.

In March, Harris went on national television to say she would pump $10 million of her personal fortune into her bid to become a senator. So far, she has put in about $3.15 million, and only three weeks are left in the campaign.

Harris paid $795,000 for the home in 2003, and its total assessed value in 2005 was about $806,500.

Even if she sells it for $1 million and puts that into the campaign, her total personal contribution would be $4.1 million.

left to her...didn't her family come down on her like a ton of bricks for that assumption?
