Be Prepared to WIN the Election
Edited on Sun Oct-29-06 08:21 AM by wyldwolf
No doomsday scenarios, no dire warnings of voting machines and elections frauds. No repackaged revolutionary rhetoric that we read day in and day out on DU.

No trumped up terrorism alerts or fears of the encroaching purple tinky winky menace.

I'm tired of the scare tactics from the right and the left.

I'm preparing to be part of the majority party.

1. Yes, but...
I felt that way when after twenty years of voting I finally voted for the winning presidential candidate in '92.

If we win big next week -- and I expect we will -- we will be more entitled to a moment to celebrate.
And then comes not only the hard work of governing (or, for most of us, being active and concerned citizens) but being ready to defend against the savage rear guard actions that are guaranteed to come.

Bill Clinton got no honeymoon when he took office. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid (and the Democratic majorities) will be under attack almost immediately. Offers to find "common ground" should be met with skepticism, and considered based on the track record of the person making the offer. John McCain and Orrin Hatch, odious though many of their views are, have shown a willingness to seek compromise on *some* issues.

Bush and company should not be trusted at all.

Exactly. Be prepared to win.

Oh, you know there were several key national Democratic wins in the 20 years before '92.

4. Pre-'92 is ancient history...
in American politics.

The Democrats winning in a landslide in the post-Watergate "Class of '74" doesn't have much relevance today, nor does the LBJ landslide of '64.

My point was that today's GOPher leadership hates what this country stands for, hates the Constitution, and hates the very concept of "bipartisanship." That is *today's* environment, and that's what a Democratic Congress faces from the very start.

You said after 20 years of voting, you got a win in '92. What party were you voting for in that period?

9. Learn to read
I said after twenty years of voting I finally voted for the winning presidential candidate. I didn't claim there were no Democratic victories.

I didn't vote for Carter either time and blame his miserable presidency for paving the way for Reagan and what came after. The country would have been better off if Ford had won in '76, and a Democrat then could have been elected in 1980.

52. It's simple Englsh
Don't know why you're have these reading comprehension problems.

It's a plain analogy: Clinton was elected in '92, and the Republicans gave him no "honeymoon." I then predicted that a Democratic Congress elected now will suffer the same fate.

Which part of this are you unable to understand?

8. And let the subpoenas from John Conyers fly!!!
The Dems must be aggressive and their cause is to clean up the repugnants' mess and corruption.

The billions wasted in Iraq...$ gone to cronies.
The billions given to the Energy Corporations.
The billions given to Big Pharma.

And last but not least, the dissolution of our Constitution and Democracy via the Military Commissions Act and the loss of the Posse Comitatus Act.

I want Watergate to look like a friendly tea party compared to what we're gonna see in 2007.

the end being helping people. A real health care plan, responsible foreign policy, balanced budget and raising the minimum wage would be a good start.

edit to add: And trade policy that doesn't sell our people down the river.

20. Yes. But it's hard to call inheriting a train wreck winning.
Winning won't be winning and then discovering we lost.
It will make Rush's blathering seem unimportant.
It will be easier than what we're doing now.
It will be full of resent.
It will be like cleaning up after a 200 year frat party.
It will feel good to return to sanity.
The trophy is tarnished.

We never had numbers approaching these going into any election since 1996 or even close. They won't beat us on turnout. The turnout advantage only adds fractions of percents. They've never overturned double digit leads.

That is what logic tells me anyway.

You do know that the majority of Dem congressional candidates in the most competitive races will be joining the House New Democrat Coalition, right?

When we win, Q, the first thing I'm going to do is come on DU and gloat for all the leftwingers who fought so hard for us NOT to win.

Then I'll do the same to the rightwingers at FreeRepublic.

The "new democratic coalition" is nothing more than a front for big business...and a cooperative effort with the Neocons to make this a one party state.

I've voted Democratic my entire life and I've never wished that they 'wouldn't win'. Your brand of McCarthyism just plain stinks...when you suggest that 'left-leaning' Democrats don't want to win.

You don't want just any Democrat to win....you and yours want a 'new democrat coalition'....GOP lite.
