Edwards/Clark/Dean Supporters
I propose an alliance. If all three were to back a Edwards/Clark ticket with Dean being given a Cabinet position, I think we could challenge Kerry. He is why I am thinking Edwards/Clark.

Edwards would go for it because he only stands to be given VP stance under Kerry. Clark will go for it because he has nothing to lose and is now unlikely to get either the VP spot under Kerry and even more unlikely to win the nomination with Edwards still in the race.

Dean, well, he is going to jump out when he loses Wisconsin. If you add up the support of Edwards, Clark, and Dean, it more than matches Kerry in Delegate wins.

Clark and Edwards are dividing the vote, so neither is going to win with the other in the race.

I think this is a win-win for all three candidates.

Don't get me wrong though. I am totally backing Kerry if he gets in the nomination. It is just that I would prefer two southerners on the Dem ticket.

I also want to state that I don't give Kerry much a chance to beat Bush. Bush is going to capture Osama in September and the only way to beat that is with a strong Southern ticket like what Clinton did in 1992 to beat the last Bush. New England is already Demo territory we need an extra 10 electoral votes from the South to win this time.

1. Sorry -- not the least bit attractive an idea to me.

2. You prefer Kerry than?
I think all the candidates divided leads to this. That is OK with me. If Dean, Edwards, and Clark cannot get along, they should just step aside and let Kerry have nomination.

4. I bet Dean, Edwards and Clark could get along fine
It's some of their supporters that have other ideas.

3. Best laid plans
Nice to ponder, but several problems with that plan. Other than that no one would ever agree to it while their candidate remains alive.

> Edwards would go for it because he only stands
> to be given VP stance under Kerry.

Not sure why that's the case. Why couldn't he be VP under Clark? Besides, if Edwards is really just targeting the VP position, the longer he stays in the race the more he is endearing himself to Kerry. So Edwards should stay in the race as long as possible if he wants to be Pres. *or* VP, and he likely *will* stick in as long as he has money.

As for an Edwards/Clark ticket, several posts have highlighted why this wouldn't be the best use of Clark's skills -- and I would hope that he wouldn't take the job, if offered by any candidate.

---

Without getting into it any further, the issue may be moot after Tuesday. Since Clark *isn't* targeting a VP position, if he doesn't beat Edwards in both VA & TN he may concede the media battle. If Clark bests Edwards and beats Kerry in either state, he may not need any alliances -- and Edwards *should* drop-out (though he may stick for the reasons cited above).

I somewhat wish that Dean had banded together with the other viable outsider (Clark) to fight the Wash insiders (Kerry/Edwards/Lieberman/Gephardt) & establishment, but that's not likely either.

5. Alliance
It just boggles my mind how no one seems to notice that Dean is second behind Kerry. And the suggestion of "Hey supporters, drop your candidate that is just behind the front runner and get behind the 3rd and 4th place candidates for a cabinet position". Ranks right up there with "With you give me your Rolex and I'll give you my Timex. It's the best deal you can hope for.....really.....trust me......"

11. Pledged vs unpledged
Yeah, but I think people are focusing more on the pledged delegates received via primary/caucus voting... and, from that view, Dean is 3rd to Kerry and Edwards, and just ahead of Clark.

6. Edwards is the other half of Kerry.
Always was, always will be.

That has been the DLC's annointed pair since 2000. Lieberman was supposed to scare the liberals into Kerry's arms.
