House Dems launch TV ad against lawmaker (KS-02)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061027/ap_on_el_ho/late_campaign_moves_1

WASHINGTON - House Democrats launched a surprise television attack against Rep. Jim Ryun (news, bio, voting record) of Kansas on Friday night, hoping to increase the number of competitive races in the battle for control of Congress.

Ryun "voted against a $1,500 combat bonus for our troops, but voted to give himself a huge pay raise — twice," the ad says of the five-term lawmaker.

It praises his rival, Nancy Boyda, as "honest and independent — the right change for Kansas."

The district, centered on Topeka, has been in Republican hands for years. The race had not generally been described by strategists in either party as a competitive one, and the commercial does not mention that Boyda is a Democrat.

Yea!! Go Boyda!!

1. That is great news. Think I will send her a buck or two.
Jim Ryun is an absolute nut. My Dad was a starter at track meets back in the 50s-60s. I was around Jim several times when he was still in high school. I thought he was a complete odd ball back then - so did my Dad, but both of us admired his running skills.

2. Thank you for thinking of Nancy.
I know what you mean about Ryun - for a while he was a hero when he broke the 4 minute mile. I can't abide his politics.

3. Just sent her $25. Wish I could have added a note that I
was a native Kansan. I have been telling people for years (when asked where I was from) that I grew up in Oklahoma. That is a complete fabrication but didn't want to hear the "your not in Kansas anymore" stuff or worse -"what is up with Kansas and evolution".

If Kansas turns even a little blue I will start owning it again.

4. Thank you.
I have spent some time talking with her, others here have spent much more. She seems the real deal to me compared to the last time when she let the DC people run it all. I can't help but think from her ads (several people I know surprise me to see them on them) and all the signs in the boonies no less that she will make a good showing. I hope it is good enough.
