You guys are SOOOOOO messed up, SOOOOOO eager to pounce on President Bush`s every word. Like you`ve never been misunderstood? Misquoted? President Bush wasn`t talking about the war in Iraq when he said "Stay the course." He was talking about golfing. Remember how he asked us all to do patriotic shopping after September 11th? That`s another example of staying the course. Remember how he stayed the course during Hurricane Katrina? Was he in New Orleans boo-hooing with the Liberal Media? NO. He was staying on his guitar lesson course and McCain birthday cake course. He wasn`t cutting and running from all those overflowing levees, he was standing his ground and setting a shining example about how brave normalcy can actually overcome flood waters. Remember his plane ride over New Orleans? That`s how he checked to make certain everything was A-OK, staying on his Leader-in-Chief course. Believe me. If he thought for a minute that the area could have used a couple extra hands, he would have been there in a New York minute. But, he decided, rightfully so, that an on-the-ground appearance would hamper rescue work. That was not the time for his supporters to be gathering at a podium, and that`s what would have happened had the president landed.
Sometimes it`s a good thing to put a little distance between events and reactions to them. That`s what I just did which led me to this new understanding. As for the war in Iraq, I`m going to do what Donald Rumsfeld suggested today. "Back off" and opt for some brave normalcy. When I get back from The Mall, I`ll check in with CNN Headline News and see if Tony Snow has announced the president`s decision on what I`m supposed to do next. Maybe there will be a New National Plan suggesting we all buy new cars during the Veteran`s Day sale.
