RNC To Pull Controversial Tennessee Ad -- Not After Corker Criticizes It, But After Canadian Ambassador Calls The White House To Complain

......

Instead, the RNC's decision to remove the ad apparently is coming after it caused an international incident with our neighbor to the north.

Canada'a Ambassador to the U.S., Michael Wilson, lodged a complaint with the RNC, because the spot also takes a swipe at Canada.

The 30-second ad features "man on the street" people taking pot shots at Ford on a variety of domestic and foreign affairs issues. It also makes misleading references about Ford's campaign contributors and his attendance at a Super Bowl party.

When the topic of North Korea comes up, one man says: "Canada can take care of North Korea. They're not busy.''

That line prompted Wilson to complain to the White House, reminding Republicans of Canada's help in the Afghanistan War.............

2. I don't know Tennessee voters . . .
Although I've traveling there on business later today, but don't they resent being treated like boobs with ads of this sort?

4. Note that this is a flat out lie.
There have been explicit denials that Canada had anything to do with this ad cancellation that have been well reported in the Canadian press (easily seen from cbc.ca). I quote from its article on this issue:

"A Republican National Committee official told NBC the ad had been pulled because it had "run its course," just one day after party chairman Ken Mehlman defended the ad and said it would continue to run."

5. Canada's probably not too thrilled with the trashing of Michael J. Fox either.
Although my other first thought was "how conveeeenient" for the RNC! To be seen as having to take down the ad to mollify Canada.

7. I want to know why the Dems aren't hitting on the fact that
Corker says it isn't his ad and he can't pull it, Mehlman says it is an ad paid for by the RNC but HE doesn't have the authority to pull it, then who the hell is running the RNC and who controls the message and the money?

I think the DNC should run clip after clip of Corker and Mehlman saying they CAN'T pull the ad - and then ask in a stern voice - "Who IS running the RNC and why can't they control their message?" Who is controlling Mehlman? Who is controlling Corker and what will they do if the repugs are elected? Someone could word it better but you get the gist.

8. Only because Bush is a bigger issue than Mehlman.
A lot of people probably don't even know who Mehlman is. Let him rot in insignificance for the most part - stuff like 'Stay the course' is what needs to be hammered with a much higher priority. (These words probably don't hold as true in Tenn. itself but, that's ok, that's making Corker look like an ass, not making a complex narrative for a national campaign.)

10. they should run an ad with tennesseans
who say they're disgusted with republicans trying to play the race card. they should have whites, blacks, hispanics, asians, democrats, republicans, etc., who say they are insulted as tennesseans that the GOP would stoop so low.

have those people in the foreground, and the ad running in the background, and then have the people say they're voting for Harold Ford.

that's the best way to end this thing. pull back the curtain and let the people see the freakin' wizard pulling the strings.
