Are some assuming Hillary for President too early?
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 10:17 PM by RiverStone
From where we sit here on the west coast, my Democratic friends and I are rather perplexed at how the mainstream media, some Democratic leaders (and many Repuke operatives) are presuming loudly that Hillary is already our 08 nominee. This "presumption" is apparently backed up by a variety of polls that suggest same. Though on the front lines, I know hardly anyone that votes blue who want Hillary for President and in particular, is comfortable with folks making such a declaration so early. We need a vigorous debate along the primary roads. Obama, Feingold, Clark, Clinton (et. al) and hopefully Gore should all receive equal presumption of their Presidential capabilities. In reality, must of us will vote for who our convention nominates anyway (over any Repuke); but assuming Hillary deserves the keys to the throne already seems misguided. What do you think? Is the presidential table being set to early for Ms. Rodham Clinton?

Who are these people?

1. Way too early to predict
After all, who saw Bill Clinton in 1990? At that point, he was almost tarnished goods after a terrible speech at the '88 DNC Convention. He practically came out of nowhere.

2. It's far too early.
But the repugs would relish piling on a Clinton candidacy. They can use it to demonize the entire party.

3. Who's this "we" you speak of?
The only people who are assuming Hillary are the MSM and Republicans. I don't personally know a single Democrat who is in favor of her as a presidential candidate.

6. Is Hillary the Republicans' boogey-(wo)man?
Today the talking heads were quoting Cheney saying Hillary could be the nominee.

10. An example of the "we"...
Thanks for asking Island Blue. Here is a recent example:

And I have seen many other polls with similar results. So tell me, who are these people that DO ASSUME Hillary is it in 08?:freak:
Yes, we should make no assumptions at all!

4. Faux is presuming louder than anyone else!
They never mention who the right wing candidate might be, though.

I agree with you: It's entirely too early to pick a candidate. Just watching how fast things can change in a month, the next general election seems light years away to me!

:hi:

5. I'm hearing less of it now, especially with Obama's
recent momentum. But for awhile there it did seem like msm and the repugs were hoping that talking about Hillary as if she'd already won the nomination would make it happen.I'd vote for whoever our candidate is, but she's not my choice.

12. Until she starts to know the back roads from Portsmouth to Exeter,
she is nothing but a senator. And a junior one at that. She has no party position at all. Let her hobnob with Murdoch and wear sackcloth and ashes for a while for voting against the cluster bombs ban sponsored by Feinstein-Leahy, ditching UHC and loving NAFTA...
