Breaking: Harold Ford Jr. Pulls Even After Nasty Attacks
We are going to win this race despite their nasty ads!

According to a new SurveyUSA poll out this evening, Ford is now back tied with Corker after the nasty ads ran against him and his family!

http://haroldfordjr2006.blogspot.com/

If you can, please send Congressman Ford money and your prayers!

We need everyone's help! The momentum is back on our side!

Chris

4. Is he worth it?
He endorsed Lie-berman and today Anne Coulter said she would vote for him if he wasn't running in Tennessee!

Just how conservative is he? You don't want another Landrieu!

6. For right now...I'll take him AND his conservative self......
Pragmatically speaking Ford is the 6th seat that we need.

I'll do whatever it takes so that we can start setting the agenda, including being glad that Landrieu is not running for re-election making her part of the majority we're trying to gain!

So for now, I'll get over it!

11. "Setting the agenda." Words every DUer and Democrat need to remember,
repeat, and carry in their hearts and minds.

That' what it's all about.

We can hold their feet to the fire once we have the majorities--and personally, I'm very much looking forward to doing so!

7. Whaaaaaa?
If TN elects Corker and the Senate headcount ends up 50-50, then yes, it would be worth it.

14. well,
Ford is a HELL of a lot better than the republican candidate. Ford is moderate, but a democrat in the south HAS to be in order to win at all.

:dem:

GO FORD!

17. He's a "D" and he's the only "D" we've got running for TN Senate.
He's better than Corker, and besides Corker is an "R".

So, we have to choose among what we're offered.

And he's wicked smart, wicked smooth, and understands things like complexities and ambiguities and trade-offs in getting things done.

Your post is just absolutely incredible. I'm appalled that at this point with the House AND Senate within reach, you would actually question whether its worth voting for a Democrat. You have got to be kidding.

And Vitter has at least has 20 or 30 IQ points on Bob Corker.

27. To me, it is not so much positions as a basic decency...
in life -- such people usually make the right decisions.

How do I know he has that? I can never forget the scene last year on the
House floor when that wretch from Ohio all but called Murtha a coward --
Ford tried to rush her! Later some reporter who was there observed that
Ford was enraged and could not contain himself and if people had not
stopped him in his tracks, he really would have hit her!

Think about it -- why should this young, non-military man get so outraged
on behalf of an unrelated old codger? I find this totally amazing and
revealing of the person's character. Contrast him to old Joementum who
keeps tripping on his shoe laces running to the Senate floor to chastize
Dems for trivial/inconsequential transgressions...

Stop running a DLC campaign. Don't be afraid to distinguish yourself from your opponent. Voters want change this time around, not another version of the group in power.

15. It could be
that when it comes to policy, message, and issues, the voters can't tell the difference between Ford and Corker. They're probably disenchanted with the status quo, but Ford may not be giving them an alternative. DLC'ers are making the mistake this year of running close to their competitors at a time of high anti-incumbent sentiment. Not a good idea.

19. Not just me
but apparently voters do, too.

Perhaps this just isn't the year for DLC candidates. They don't do well aginst Republicans who are out of favor with voters because they sound so much like them.

Keep in mind, this is a year when even the most die hard Republicans or conservative leaning independents are tired of the Iraq War, corruption, high gas prices, declining economy, high cost of health care, etc. The GOP doesn't have anything to offer these people, and a Dem candidate whose positions are nearly identical with GOP ones isn't going to pick up a lot of support.

In years past it may have worked, but the GOP definitely don't have any coat tails for a DLC'er to coast on during this election season.

48% of the vote is to Fords right. He has the other 48%. They are fighting over the people who decide at the poll.

26. If That Is What You Believe, Ma'am
You are probably falling into the oft-committed error of thinking one's own views are those of just about everyone else everywhere. This is almost never the case. The people of Tennessee do not seem to be having much trouble distinguishing between the two candidates....

33. For the love of pete,
what exactly is it that you don't understand about a dem majority in the Senate? It's not that hard to grasp. Leahy and Kennedy in chairmanships just to start with. Dems setting the agenda. No more Scalias. If you can't get that, you're hopeless.

13. It's been a dead heat for a while,
a testament to Harold Ford's skills as a candidate.

I don't agree with Ford on many issues but if we had more candidates as gutsy as him we'd be winning the Senate easily. Ford knows the rules: Never let your opponents define you and never let them get in a free punch.

21. Red State Dem's
If he was to run as a liberal in TN like you want he would be lucky to get 38%, Gore couldn't even carry the state and he was their Senator. For Ford to be even is a miracle unto itself so we should just accept that there are going to be red state Dem's and move on because we need the majority and they are always going to be to far to the right.

29. Scientific method would discount poll responses in "race-infected" environment
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 12:50 AM by Sensitivity
- Reponses are based on white embarrassment not their real intention.
Many studies have shown this to be the case.

Repeated studies as well as results from bi-racial elections have demonstrated this.

See findings from PEW study:

http://www.asne.org/kiosk/editor/98.july/kohut1.htm

These findings suggest that for most topics, typical media polls do a good job gauging public opinion. But results based on questions about racial issues may be more problematic. In fact, the experiment suggests that accurately measuring racial antagonisms may be a problem in all survey research. This may help explain why pre-election polls have overestimated white support for black candidates in biracial elections.
