Prediction: Anti-New England liberal ads will backfire
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 07:54 PM by WillyBrandt
Especially if they are run anytime soon, with the Democratic primaries still going.

Nevermind the presumptiveness of attacking the frontrunner as though he were the nominee. I just really doubt the sectionalism will work that well: Bush will look like an asshole, especially if he has to append the "I approved this message" crap at the end.

Not only that, it open the door to more AWOL discussion, as negative ad gets replied to with the most obvious negative reply.

More than anything, I've just got an intuitive feeling it won't work. It has the stink of helpless desperation about it, like the ridiculous Moon Base/Mars Project "proposal". No one wants to vote for a flailing, failing man. (Or should I say "man"?)

And everyone I know who hates Massachusetts is from the Northeast. Apart from GOP nut cases, Mass, home of my beloved alma mater, is just another state.

1. I agree!
This is a year for issues, Americans are worried about a lot of things. If all the GOP offers is name calling and character assassination, it will backfire

2. If the RNC runs the ad for him, last the "They're attacking Bush for
attacking the terrorists" one, he doesn't have to "approve this message" and he remains above the fray. That's what I'm concerned about.

6. Such ads will backfire
People are really questioning the admin about alot of things. They are in a fight in the GE and they know it. They are massing so much money for it.

7. Depending on what it says
I think you could be right. I don't think it would go over well to have the "president" badmouthing any particular part of the country. Of course they may have some devious slimy way to suggest it without actually saying it.

he paints Kerry with the same brush as the previous failed candidates that happen to hail from there.

11. Since Republicans have no vision or platform for America
The only thing they can do is attack and smear our candidates. After 30 years of the same old same old, I think the American voter is pretty sick of Republican smear tactics. The "liberal" epithat is particularly non-operative, given the budget busting bills of this Republican Congress/Preisident as well as the relentless attacks on personal liberties that they seem to enjoy so much.

I really hope that they spend their $200MM on attack ads. This will only prove that they cannot run on any positive accomplishments or any constructive vison for America's future.

Bring it on....
