Just had a thought on the Oct. Surprise
My thoughts are the October surprise is to discuss anything but politics. Fox News and the other Rove run media will be talking about anything but what is actually important to the electorate.

They'll talk about Foley as a gay man, North Korea as a Clinton creation (along with that evil Madeleine Albright), they'll talk about the Dow jones showing the economy is good, they'll talk for the next three days about the Hawaii earthquake.

The will not discuss Iraq...not one word. They will not talk about jobs, price of gas, social security, the real economy (non Wall Street), etc.

My guess is, besides some local campaigning, the Shrub will go into hiding. He won't say much or be seen. That way he can't say anything stupid.

1. I wonder if they will indict jefferson immediately before the election

he is trailing in the polls, so they would have to do it before the
election for maximum political effect.

3. Don't know--but Foley'll come out of treatment in late October.
And he'll be talking. That's what will get the media attention. :D

I don't.

11. I certainly hope not.

but with the FBI investigating the whole sordid affair, I think
any attorney worth his salt would advise him to keep a low profile.

2. More sabre rattling at NK and more scoffing at global warming.

And more talk about the (temporary) relative low price of gasoline. As if it were a measure of the economy.

If they want to talk about the economy let them talk about the price of a gallon of milk or a pound of hamburger. Or health insurance premiums for those who can get health insurance in the first place.

5. It's this "Weep-O-Crat" slur.
Not much as surprises go, but to see this thing rolled out so heavily - it's obviously some kind of coordinated effort. Weak, though. Very weak.

6. We'll see who's weeping after the midterms.
I hope they televise it when Hastert and Frist have to move out of their great big offices and fire all that extra staff.

I remember when West Virginia's last repuke governor, Cecil Underwood, had to move out of the Governor's mansion in 2001 after a defeat by Democrat Bob Wise. They showed it on teevee. He had his grandchildren and I don't know what other family members living there with him and they were all crying. It was great.

7. Don't forget a missing Blond Girl or two
Just to keep the mix just a bit more believable and of course some focus on Halloween costumes, sales, candy, etc then a few get ready for the Christmas shopping season, war on Christmas, etc, etc.

12. Maybe that's because no one wants to be seen with him!
"He won't say much or be seen."

He's like the plague to any smart ReTHUGlicans. ( That is if there are any smart Rethugs.)

14. I read that the Saddam trial verdict is due 2 days before our election.
And we know the verdict will be guilty: the Bush/neocon machine has, I'm sure, already seen to that.

16. I think Saddam will "cut a deal" with Rove and Bushco...
Edited on Sun Oct-22-06 07:49 AM by calipendence
... and "tell us where Bin Laden is hiding" (even though we KNOW he doesn't have a clue on this). They'll "let Saddam out of his death sentence" for his cooperation, and then show Bin Laden shortly afterward after they "caught" him, even though they've had him holed up for some time now.

They the GOP will claim they:
1) caught Bin Laden.
2) connected Saddam Hussein to Bin Laden and Al Queda.
3) We'll have little or no time to disprove item 2 before the election.
4) They'll even say "Hey, even we can help stop capital punishment!" as well.
5) Saddam will be happy sitting in a "nice" prison cell someplace where we keep him happy for his cooperation!
