1. No and won't
I cannot stand Robin Williams. He's a hyperactive freak.

7. Perhaps it doesn't look funny
because, as I saw in the previews, he said as president he would not simple fill his cabinet with Democrats, but also Republicans and people with no party affiliation. As with what food tastes good, what is funny is subjective. Some films that some people find to be side-splitting funny I find to be stupid. For not being funny, Robin Williams seems to have no trouble getting roles in comedies.

5. Yes, we've seen it.
While the technacality of the vote machine fraud was pretty iffy, illogical, it does give people something to think about. I was dispointed that they tried to pass it off as a computer clitch, rather than the deliberate programing fraud it was. I did like the premise that someone could actually turn down the office of pres. once they found it was a fraud, BUT, when have we had someone that honest running for the office in the first place?

10. I think they kind of boxed themselves in with that story ...

(spoilers)

If they'd made it so the company had deliberately created that result, either it meant that they were incompetent (since one of the other parties was supposed to win), or the romantic interest (Laura Linney's character) had singlehandedly messed things up for them. If the latter were the case, the film's focus would have been more on her -- why she did it, and possibly she'd have to cope with not only the company, but the cheating political party as well. And if the Diebold-type company HAD meant to skew the results that way, Dobbs (or someone behind him -- Walken's character maybe?) would have had to be the villain. I'm sure Williams could have handled the role -- he's played bad guys before, and the movie did hint that populism can be whipped up by the media -- but I guess the filmmakers wanted him to be likeable and decent. Kind of like the earlier movie "Dave", where the protagonist also steps down (in favor of someone who is better-qualified and entitled to the job, too).

I guess one way to put a new spin on it would be the dilemma faced by both Dobbs and his love-interest Green, if the person who actually did win, also happened to be nasty, stupid, and immature! Would it be harder to do the "honest" thing then, if you knew it would be disasterous for the country? (The incumbent Dem who gives him the Oval Office tour seems well-meaning and reasonable.)

Disappointing, as you say (the "Dobbs as villain" plot is more sinister and probably gets more at the heart of the fraud potential, in Diebold and the media). But I think this is a situation where trying to make both Dobbs and Green as good as possible, limits the number of possibilities.

But at the very least it does get people to think twice about using voting machines which can't be verified.

9. It's not a "Robin Williams" film. It's quiet and understated
and focuses upon a "Diebold is evil" theme to the exclusion of comedy. There are funny moments but it seemed to be a large, interesting plane rev'ing it's engines on the runway, and you know it's going to be really neat to watch when it takes off, but it never really does. That's just me, I'm sure others found something to really enjoy. Robin does some good "blue" humor though.

"All the President's Men" on the other hand was an awards contender.

16. Ha! Missed the obvious intention. Not my first time.
Spoiler, I'm going to mention a plot point so if you haven't seen it, don't read this post.

"I'm not really the elected President of the United States." Mr. Dobbs goes public and is honest and lets the real President take his rightful place, and is given Time's "Man of the Year" cover as a reward.

Hahaha. Little bitty suggestion to George Bush, and a built-in reward to boot! I'll gladly give Bush a magazine cover in exchange for Kerry completing his last two years of office.

8. Everything I've read about it,
voting machine plot notwithstanding, indicates that as a political satire it has all the bite of grandma's underpants. It sounds like a wasted opportunity to me both in terms of humour and political savagery, and, most gratingly of all, feels queasily symbolic of past Democratic wimp-outs and capitulations.
