Kyle Whitmire of the Birmingham Weekly covers the Governor's trip to Birmingham during his recent swing through the South, which included stops in Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida.
After settling in Virginia, Warner became a political booster, then a Democratic Party chairman and then governor. Unlike some potential candidates in his party, Warner is targeting states, such as Alabama, that don't often vote for Democrats.
"Everybody in America shouldn't have to move to a major community to find a good job," Warner said. "If we continue to destroy rural and small-town America, then America is going to change. I don't think we can stop jobs from going to Bangalore, India, but they ought to be able to go to rural Alabama or the south side of Virginia, as well."
According to Rep. Davis, Warner is the kind of candidate who can turn a red state blue. When Warner ran for governor in Virginia, the state hadn't voted for a Democratic president since 1964, the Legislature was 2-to-1 Republican, and Republicans held every statewide elected office. Warner won anyway.
And a bit North of Birmingham, the Concord Monitor notes that Governor Warner enjoys reading Harry Potter books. How did they know? Because its listed under the Governor's favorite books on his Facebook Profile. You can read their article here and if you haven't already added Governor Warner as a friend on Facebook yet, be sure and click here to do so.
Finally, congratulations to the winner of our TxtVoter contest, Josh Harvey, a Louisiana native who now resides in the New York/New Jersey area. Josh (pictured above with the Governor in New Hampshire) wins a brand-new 30gig iPod! The runners-up were gmudems and the CollegeDemsCT. Congratulations to all who participated and keep checking our youthroots page.
