The right wing evangelists went with the GOP because of the Gay issue
They were convinced the GOP would stop the gays. Is that like Hitler wanted to "stop" the gays?

Rove played lip service to them and introduced gay hate agendas state by state and got them out to vote against the democrats.

Now the theocrats on the right are finding out that the GOP had Gays in the party, with power and with the acknowledgment of GOP leadership.

They are in a total quandary. They all hate what they call the "homosexual agenda" but the GOP tried to play both ends against the middle, and they're losing it.

Karma.

1. Karma, indeed
What got the fundies out to vote in 2004 will probably keep them home this time around. Oh, well. Bummer for them.

The anti-gay folks were Rove's magic bullet in 2004. All the Repugs had to do was put anti-gay mariage initiatives on the ballot and the paraniod bigots would flock to the polls.

Most of these states passed those measures in 2004 so what's to bring them out for the repugs this time around? Doubt they'll be willing to stand in line for a party that kept the antics of a gay congressman secret. Ah, well.

They've got nothing this time.

3. Why do the fundies despise gays so much?
Why don't they despise hunger or poverty with the same vigor?

I'd love to be enlightened.

2. If it hadn't been gays, it would have been some other group
The fundie preachers know that it's easier to keep power for themselves if they scare the people by telling them that some "outside" group is out to get them.

Back when I was growing up in the segregated South, the segregationist politicians were always saying that "our" Negroes would be satisfied with their lot in life if it weren't for the "outside" agitators.

Martin Luther King Jr. wrote his famous Letter from a Birmingham Jail because a number of Bishops and other highly placed religious leaders had said that there should not be any nonviolent demonstrations on the part of black people. They claimed that King's SCLC organization was an outside group. King answered that charge in his Letter.

GOTCHA.

Free rides on the tilt-a-whirl now available to all comers.

Seriously, MOST pedophiles are straight. And that includes the "hot for teacher" straight female teachers that have managed to emerge in the MSM news of late.

9. It's a no win situation for the Rethugs.
The hypocrisy of their exploiting an anti-gay agenda has been exposed, and they let a pedophile sneak in the back door to boot. They can drop gas to fifty cents a gallon, find and kill Osama, convict and execute Saddam, AND nuke Iran and Cuba. But no October surprise can alter the fact that they selfishly endangered the welfare of our children!
