Santorum endorsed by police, Casey by firefighters (Smack Rudy G. Ad)
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06282/728641-100.stm

Sen. Rick Santorum and challenger Bob Casey today each claimed endoresement from public safety groups.

Firefighters from throughout the western side of the state gathered today to endorse Mr. Casey's bid for U.S. Senate and vent about a commercial for Mr. Santorum featuring former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and volunteer firefighters.

Mr. Santorum, meanwhile, gathered with law enforcement officials to tout an endorsement previously voted on by the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police.

At Casey's event, Joe King, president of International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1, which represents Pittsburgh firefighters said Mr. Santorum's commercial with Mr. Giuliani "is deceiving. It's a misrepresentation of firefighters. They had a small group of volunteer firefighters outside of the city of Philadelphia. Giuliani and Santorum portrayed it as firefighters being for Santorum, and that's not true."

<snip>

"We're tired of Rick Santorum not supporting firefighter issues," said George Ban, the western district vice president for the state firefighters association and a member of Butler's fire company. "Bob Casey is committed to providing safe communities and seeing that our firefighters statewide are adequately funded."

Hope Casey gets an ad up with Firefighters denouncing Giuliani praising Ricky as supporting firefighters. Casey has been running some great ads the last couple of weeks that are countering all the crap Ricky is putting out and taking Ricky to task for such things as scamming the taxpayers for his kids homeschool education.

2. Cause the GOP never question their tasering or shootings

The brass always seems to be GOP. I think Rank and File used to be more Dem but with many of these young cops today that come straight out of the military I'm not sure how they split now.

3. The answer should be obvious.

But since it's not, I give my take. Police are a "law and order" pro-status quo organization.
They are very conservative, just as the GOP is. Also, they want protection for their police so when they abuse their power, there can be no legal recourse for the victims.

If you don't already know, I am a staunch opponent of police unions. They have enough power. They do not need a union.

Sadly, the police in this country have been transformed into a wannabe military force (via the "war on drugs") from their original and proper status as peacekeeper.
