Tom Reynolds commercial- spinning as his campaign goes down
Looks like the Fordham attempt to shelter Reynolds is going as well as his attempts to cover for Foley.

I got one question for the whole lot of them- Why did you warn the pages if the emails were so harmless?

Facing a tight re-election race, Rep. Thomas Reynolds (news, bio, voting record) has launched an ad campaign to defend himself against criticism over the scandal involving former Rep. Mark Foley (news, bio, voting record) and congressional pages.

"Nobody's angrier and more disappointed that I didn't catch his lies," the New York representative says, referring to Foley, in the television commercial that appeared Friday on stations in Buffalo and Rochester. "I trusted that others had investigated. Looking back, more should have been done, and for that, I am sorry."

Reynolds, head of the House Republican election effort, has come under attack from Democrats who say he did too little to protect a page from Foley.

In an editorial board meeting Friday with The Buffalo News, Reynolds said he could not remember several details about his involvement, including exactly when he learned of Foley's e-mails to teenage congressional pages or when he told House Speaker Dennis Hastert about them.

3. Reynolds diagnosed with a new strain of influenza...
the "Foley Flu"

Reynolds' retreat comes a day after he went on the air with an ad trying to apologize for his role in the Mark Foley scandal. It also comes on the same day as Zogby polling commissioned by The Buffalo News shows him trailing his Democratic challenger Jack Davis by 15 points, 48 percent to 33 percent. Even if we take the results of the Zogby poll with a grain of salt, which I would tend to recommend, SurveyUSA polling conducted midweek for WGRZ-TV Buffalo showed Davis leading by 5 points, 50 percent to 45 percent.

Whatever the polling shows, it's becoming increasingly clear that Congressman Reynolds' top priority is no longer fighting, perhaps in vain, to retain the Republican majority through his position at the NRCC but rather fighting, perhaps equally in vain, to retain his own seat in the House. Frankly, that fact should have a lot of Republican Congressional candidates very worried.
