Dick Cheney calls Ronald Reagan an Al-Qaeda Enabler!!!

Cheney and the White House have been making this point for some time now, that Ronald Reagan's withdrawal of US troops from Beirut in 1983 emboldened Al Qaeda.

For some reason, the media has been loathe to report on it. Oh sure, they mention Cheney's quotes, and list Beirut as one of two US withdrawals that emboldened Al Qaeda, but the media never seems to catch the fact that the Beirut withdrawal was Reagan's doing. That Cheney is saying flat out that Ronald Reagan's policies emboldened Al Qaeda. (Wonder how Nancy feels about that.)

To wit, from today's Washington Post:
"If we follow Congressman Murtha's advice and withdraw from Iraq the same way we withdrew from Beirut in 1983 and Somalia in 1993, all we will do is validate the al-Qaeda strategy and invite even more terrorist attacks," Cheney said in Milwaukee.
Note the Beirut reference. Also note the Somalia reference. Who got us into the mess in Somalia? President George H. W. Bush and his Defense Secretary, Dick Cheney. So Cheney is blaming Reagan and Bush, Sr., and himself for "inviting more terrorist attacks" against Americans.

Now do you think that's a story?

Gee, I do!! But I hope it gets legs after the "cocktober surprise" has fully run its course. It's so nice to see that the GOP's words and deeds are the gifts that keep on giving!

2. i`m going to get killed for saying this but----
ronny tried to solve the problem by sending in habib but guess what-the boys in the back room were cutting deals with the israeli`s and guess who the boys in the back room were.ronny knew nothing of this until the talks collapsed.what tripped up ronny was the cover-up and the military reaction when the bad guys blew up our marines.

3. No, you're not gonna get killed. The events back then aren't so much
the story--it's the headline. On the one hand, they waltzed to power invoking Saint Ronnie and his strong defense posture at every opportunity, and now that they are in charge, they're tearing down the icons of the saint...perhaps with hopes to put new icons of Saint Monkey up in their place?

This has got to be disturbing on many levels to those who remain deeply loyal to the Saint Ronnie agenda. That's why I like it!

14. One Important Note About Somalia
Although Clinton was in charge at the time, I can recall that it was the REPUBLICANS who denounced our involvement in Somalia (a mission apparently initiated by Bush I) and loudly demanded that Clinton pull our troops out of Somalia (which he did) after the "Black Hawk Down" incident. So, I guess the Republicans in Congress were also "emboldening" Al-Queda, especially since they were rumored to have been involved in training the Somalis take down the Black Hawk helicopter?
