AP: Quotes From Lawmakers on Foley Scandal
Quotes From Lawmakers on Foley Scandal

Sunday October 8, 2006 7:46 PM

By The Associated Press

Quotes from lawmakers who appeared on the Sunday talk shows
discussing the congressional sex scandal involving former Rep. Mark
Foley, R-Fla., and what leaders including Speaker Dennis Hastert,
R-Ill., did to investigate:

"Based on the information we have today, the speaker's office acted
proactively, they acted aggressively, and within hours, within hours
of the explicit e-mails coming to light, they demanded Foley's
resignation." - Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Fla., on ABC's "This Week."

---

"What you guys want to do is take your dirty laundry and throw it
over the fence and try to blame other people for the problems." -
Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., to Putnam.

"What is clear is that the leadership did not do a very good job
of protecting these 15- and 16-year-old pages from what appears
to be a predatory kind of behavior. And frankly I think all
of us are pretty shocked by it." - Rep. Martin Meehan, D-Mass.,
on Fox.

Too bad they were "proactive" and "agressive" like two years later.

And Foley resigned before anyone even really figured out what was happening -- from ABC calling about the "overly friendly" emails when for all we knew it was just a misunderstanding.

It was like ABC called and >zip< there was a cloud of dust and papers drifting to the floor.
