I'm so looking forward to the DNC convention in July!
For two reasons:

1. We'll finally have the guy picked who will bring down the Bush regime. My choices, in order, are Clark. Kerry. Edwards.

In reality, I'm thinking it will be Kerry.

2. The DU rules will prevent people with a bad case of sour grapes from further tearing down our nominee:

... once the Democratic party officially nominates its candidate for president, then the time for fighting is over and the negative attacks against candidates must stop. The administrators of this website do not wish for our message board to be used as a platform to attack and tear down the only progressive on the planet with any hope of defeating George W. Bush. Constructive criticism and even outright disappointment with the candidate may be expressed, but partisan negative attacks will not be welcome. If you wish to contribute to the defeat of the Democratic candidate for president, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website. As the election season draws closer, we may expand this rule to include Democratic candidates for other political offices.

*************

Yep! Can't wait! And may the best dem (translation: he who the voters pick) win!

Just don't report back here on your efforts at protesting the convention afterwards. It won't be welcome per the DU rules.

21. I protested the LA convention
I was a DNC staffer with floor passes and everything, but there were some things in the platform that I just could not abide by (not to mention my absolute disgust at Gore's choice of running mates), so I joined the protests outside from time to time. Considering that the bulk of the protestors were protesting from the left, I think that the DNC would have been wise to hear what they had to say. These were potential Democratic voters who felt taken for granted and left entirely out of the process. I've got to say that catching Rage Against the Machine's free performance (one of their last) was a much bigger highlight than seeing a bunch of people wave "Tipper Rocks" banners at the woman who fought to censor rock and roll.

I think it's healthy for democracy for both parties to be protested, and for both to hear what their critics have to say about them. I have a short documentary on the whole thing at http://www.jasonbuckley.com/vid.html

24. Your post shows a misunderstanding of Tipper's actions
She wanted music policed and labled for minors.

Censorship is a whole nother animal.

Is the surgeon general censoring tobacco with warning labels and bans on sales to minors?

Is the DOT censoring roads by not allowing those under 16 drive?

34. Musical McCarthyism
Tell that to Jello Biafra who is the only musician ever arrested for obscenity because of album art. Tipper said she took credit for it in an interview.

Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 01:53 PM by wyldwolf
No, actually, I won't do that. Why rub it in when one of the DLC dems (Kerry-Clark-Edwards) wins the nom then kicks Bush's ass?

16. two points to make:
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 02:04 PM by wyldwolf
1. I was involved in the early Draft Clark movement and have volunteered for him in my state. I was even invited to WORK on the campaign.
2. I've been on DU since day 1 and defended Clark in one of the very first "Clark may run" threads.

So if you're implying that you somehow have Clark supporter credentials others don't, you're fooling yourself.

Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 01:58 PM by lcordero
I reject Bush in all of his incarnations and that includes the "three-quarter Bush (D) DLC Democrat" clones in the Democratic Party.

I reject Bush and I reject all parts of Bush, even if it means Bush winning the election.
