MSNBC CORRESPONDENT CHIP REID: You know, he was bragging recently that he was going to hit -- I think it was 34 districts in 30 days to do fundraisers. He has canceled all of his fundraisers for this week and for next week. That is big. That's a lot of money, and that's going to mean some trouble from people out there who are also going to be separating themselves from him.

5. I think he's pretty much toast....

3. Cancelling fundraisers is always a telling sign.
It means either he's on the way out or nobody wants him coming around. If nobody wants him coming around, that means he's on his way out. Cancelling ALL fundraisers means the same thing, in spades.

7. "nobody wants him coming around"
that's a possibility. one kentucky republican canceled hastert. there may have been more cnacellations that weren't announced -- pre-empted by Hastert's decision.

I think the guy is toast as speaker, if for no other reason than his actions hand the house control back to the dems.

6. WILL hastert resign?
not should he resign -- but rather DO YOU THINK HE WILL RESIGN?

Will he just resign the post as House Speaker, or will he also resign as an representative?

8. he'd resign as speaker, not overall
And I think it depends on whether Foleygate simmers down. If a week from now, the GOP is still bleeding, the pressure will be huge.

But if I had to bet on it, I'd say that Hastert doesn't resign. He instead says he won't seek re-election as speaker, which may be moot if the Dems regain the House.
